Palm wine tapper abducted in Ondo

A 55-year-old palm wine tapper, Jimoh Ilofa, has been reportedly abducted at Irun in Akoko Northwest Local Government Ondo State.

The Nation learnt that the incident occurred when the victim was on his Oluyani farm to tap palm wine.

It was gathered that the man, who left home with his motorcycle, later called his family that some people had kidnapped him.

His motorcycle was said to have been abandoned by the roadside. He was reportedly moved towards Ikare-Akoko, along Abadara.

The Irun community was said to be in fear, as farmers were afraid to go to farms.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Irun-Akoko, Ismail Ajileye, confirmed that a case of abduction was reported and they had combed the area.

He said local hunters had been informed in order to rescue the palm wine tapper, whose relations were said to have arrived from Kwara State.

Some of his kinsmen, who spoke in confidence, doubted the veracity of his abduction, stressing that kidnappers would not have allowed their captive to call his family without demanding ransom.

However the search for his whereabouts has been intensified.
