Give me staff of office, Olukere tells Ekiti govt

The Olukere of Ikere Ekiti, Ganiyu Ayodele Obasoyin, has renewed his call to the state government to give him a staff of office to formally recognising him as a monarch.

Obasoyin made the plea at the weekend during a visit to Deputy Governor Bisi Egbeyemi in his office.

The only royal stool officially recognised in Ikere is that of the Ogoga presently occupied by Oba Adejimi Adu Alagbado.

The Olukere, who was accompanied by his chiefs during the visit, as also described Governor Kayode Fayemi’s return to office as “divine and historic”.

He urged the residents to support and cooperate with the Fayemi administration to succeed in the development of the state.

According to him, Fayemi’s victory at the last governorship poll and his subsequent inauguration into office alongside Egbeyemi and some policy pronouncements made so far have given hope to Ekiti people.

Obasoyin said the staff of office would give his stool official recognition and the right to sit in the State Council of Traditional Rulers, among other privilege.

One of the community leaders who accompanied the Olukere, Chief Michael Shittu, as well as others solicited the state government’s cooperation to recognise Obasoyin as a substantial king in Ikere and Ekiti State.

Congratulating Fayemi and his administration on their return to office, Shittu noted that the alleged wrong done to Olukere must be corrected.
