No fewer than 109 pupils in Anambra State have been offered scholarship by the lawmaker representing Onitsha South in the state House of Assembly, Mr Patrick Aniunoh.
The pupils received N9.5 million expected to cover their first term tuition fees, following their excellent performances in the 2018 holiday lessons sponsored by the politician.
Presenting cheques to the beneficiaries in Onitsha, Aniunoh said no fewer than 300 pupils have benefitted from the scholarship scheme since three years ago when he became a member of the House.
He explained that the scheme was targeted at taking the children off the streets as well as reducing certain challenges parents face in taking care of their children.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Chairman, Onitsha South, Mr Mofus Ezeoba, praised the lawmaker for his benevolence, describing him as transparent.
Co-ordinator, Patrick Aniunoh Scholarship Scheme, Mrs Anthonia Okonkwo, said the holiday lessons were organised for both junior and senior pupils.
She explained that 250 pupils were selected for the scholarship, adding that the scheme, which was based on merit, was targeted at giving every child the opportunity to excel.
Parents of two beneficiaries, Mrs Vivian Ilozurike and Mrs Iloegbunam Patricia thanked the benefactor for his kind gesture, and prayed God to reward him immensely.
