S’South group call for social rebirth, collaboration for a new Nigeria

As the world enters a new year, Nigerians have been charged to see the task of rebuilding the country as one needing the impute of all Nigerians.
The Convener of the South-South Reawakening Group (SRG), Mr. Joseph Ambakederimo, who gave the charge in a New Year goodwill message to Nigerians, also charged Nigerians to choose wisely in next year’s general elections, going for only godly and incorruptible leaders.
According to Ambakederimo, it is time for Nigerians to realise that the country belongs to them, mobilise to save it from the vices that have made it look unattractive, put national interest above personal interest.
“The task of nation building cannot be left to one man, all of us must join hands to support and build a progressive society, the kind of Nigeria that we want to see is in our hands, the Nigeria that will compete at the world stage in the areas of infrastructure, human capital development, industrialization, Agriculture and education.
“As we go into the New Year the scramble and contention  for elective office will assume a higher crescendo as we approach the general elections to elect those who will represent us across board. We want to reiterate our call for the need to elect credible and God fearing people into office. We need to elect people who are prepared to live for others, incorruptible, people who show empathy to the Nigerian people should be the hallmark of attributes that the voting masses should look out for.
“We  should shun thuggery and avarice. As often said, we do not have another country, Nigerian belongs to all of us and we must stay here to salvage it together. We must put national interest above personal interest to put this country in the path of progress. This is what happens in other progressive climes. We urge Nigerians to live and learn to respect one another, forgiveness, respect individual religion and show love to country.
“We challenge INEC to conduct what will be adjudged to be the most free and fair election ever to be conducted by any government since the inception of democratic governance in the history of Nigeria. President Buhari has given his word that the elections shall be free and fair and we believe him that the elections shall be so conducted”, he said.
He, however, lamented the depth of social decadence that the society in Nigeria had sunken to in recent times, noting the level of wanton and needless killings in different parts of the country. He called for a social rebirth across the country.
“We have suddenly all become ritualists  in Nigeria. We take turn to demonize and bring each other down, the political class are the culprit in this, they sponsor killings of innocent and defenseless Nigerians just to bring down their opponents, the pattern is they go to one remote community and kill as many defenseless people as they can and splash it on the front pages of newspapers and we will rise and label their opponent clueless and incompetent. It is sad that human life has become so cheap that we share these gruesome killings on social media”, he said.
