Ex-Health board boss gets awards

The immediate past Registrar of the West African Health Examination Board (WAHEB), Dr. Gladys Ihunda has been decorated as the Matron of the Zero Tolerance for Social Immoralities and Initiatives (ZETSI) Africa.

Ihunda also received the 2018 Icon Award of Excellence.

The Youths Advocacy for Good Governance and Initiative (YAGGI) also honoured her with the Icon of Humanitarian Service award.

The two-in-one event was held at the ECWA Guest House in Yaba, Lagos.

WAHEB is the regulatory body in charge of Schools of Health Technology and Hygiene in Nigeria. It organises qualifying examinations for the schools.

Ihunda described the award as a reward for hard work.

She said it is a big challenge for her to do more.

“I feel great because receiving awards after retirement makes me fulfilled. I spent 30 years in service, but four years in WAHEB as the Registrar of the board. I retired on October 29. I did not succumb to corrupt practices. If I hear about anyone being involved in examination malpractice, I would blow it up because exposing it will make those involved to be ashamed and shun the act,” she said.

She noted that those who get involved in exam malpractice cannot defend the certificates, noting that even if they get jobs, they will not be effective.

She, therefore, urged youths not to be involved in such acts.

ZETSI Africa President Rasak Jeje, described Ihunda as a woman of integrity.

“She is a leader who knows that leadership is not just a title, but about influencing people. We have honoured her today to encourage her to do more,” he said.
