Buhari mourns as ex-FCT minister Abdullahi dies at 74

President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the government and people of Jigawa State on the death of a former Kano State military governor, Air Vice Marshal Hamza Abdullahi.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President commiserated with family, friends and Hadejiya community of the former governor.

The late Abdullahi also served as Minister of Works and Housing and Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He noted that the sacrifices and good-heartedness of the former governor would always be remembered, most remarkably in revitalising the Expanded Programme of Immunisation for women and children in Kano, and working assiduously to ensure the successful movement of the nation’s capital from Lagos to Abuja.

As a military officer, the President said, the late Abdullahi was disciplined, focused and fully committed to the unity and progress of Nigeria.

President Buhari prayed that God will comfort his family and grant him eternal rest.

The late Abdullahi was FCT Minister under Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB).

The former military governor, who hails from Hadejia in Jigawa State, was born on March 2, 1945.

He was 74.

The late Nigeria Air Force (NAF) officer was military governor when President Buhari was military Head of State.

He reportedly died yesterday at a German hospital after an illness.

He is survived by three wives and many children.

His death was confirmed by the Hadejia Emirate Council’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mohammed Garba Talaki.

Also, Jigawa State Governor Muhammed Badaru Abubakar expressed shock over the death of the former military governor.

He said the state and the country had lost a rare statesman.

A statement by his aide, Mallam Bello Zaki, said: “The deceased was a gentleman and an elder statesman who was instrumental to the emergence of the old Kano State.”
