Police arraign three for alleged N1.5m theft

Three men, Tunde Aborode, 21; Oluwaseun Raji, 20; and Emmanuel Amon, 35; have been arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for alleged breaking and stealing.

Prosecuting Inspector Aondohemba Koti said the accused last December 27 at Mushin, Lagos, broke into a shop and stole phones worth N1.5 million.

He alleged that the accused and others at large conspired to burgle a store, stealing phones belonging to Mrs. Adenike Azeez.

Koti said the complainant reported that neighbours called to inform her of the breaking and stealing.

“When the complainant went to the station to report, she was told that three men were arrested by a patrol team that same night with phones inside a bag, while others escaped.

“The complainant inspected those phones and identified them as hers. The accomplices have absconded with the rest of the phones,” he said.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, whose residential addresses were not stated, pleaded innocence to the three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

Magistrate M.O. Tanimola granted the accused N100,000 bail each with two sureties each as part of the bail conditions.

She said the sureties should be employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Tanimola adjourned the case till January 23.
