A 35-year-old electrical engineer, Adedeji Adebesin, was yesterday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding a bank of N350, 000.
Prosecuting counsel Mrs. Josephina Ikhayere said the accused committed the offence last December 11 in Ikeja.
She alleged that the accused entered one of the banks in the area and withdrew N350, 000 from his account, which was in the red.
“A few seconds after the accused collected the money and left, it dawned on the cashier that he had no money in his account.

“Five days later, the accused came again, demanding N100, 000 from the same account. The cashier quickly alerted the police and he was arrested,” the prosecutor said.
The offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Adebesin, who lives in Oshodi, Lagos, pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate A.K. Dosunmu granted the accused N100, 000 bail with two sureties as part of the bail conditions.
She said the sureties should be employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned till January 29.
