Expert urges teachers to be creative

The Chief Executive of Leading Learning Limited, Folasade Adefisayo has advised teachers to develop their creative and technological skills that will help in preparing today’s children for effective global competitiveness.

Adefisayo said this at a Strategy Timeout Activating Resourcefulness in Teachers (START) seminar organized by CME Foundation held recently at Eden Comfort, Ikeja, Lagos.

Adefisayo said children in Nigeria need to be prep in a way that will make them become active players and competitors in today’s globalized world.

Adefisayo said “to become a new teacher, we must challenge how we are doing things right now, learn new skills, constantly reflect, share ideas, embrace the future and never give up”.

“Teachers need to be exhibit progressive attitude in the course of their work and be committed to the children that they work with. Go outside the course of their duty. Must go out and sacrificially work with the children”, she said.

“The only way teachers can teach effectively and raise children that will compete favorably in today’s word is for teachers to learn new digital skills needed for today world”.

“Technology can be used to address inefficiencies in education management and the learning outcomes required in today’s workforce and used to support teachers to accelerate teaching and learning at scale to reach many more children,”.

She also lamented the poor standard of our curriculum but stressed that teachers can work with the current curriculum and deliver better results when they are creative, open to learning and are abreast of global trend and practices in teachings”.

She further said the staggering number of children out of school.

“I have done the maths. We will need 113, 000 new classrooms to capture over 13 million out of schools children around the country. I think we can deploy technology to help them access formal education.

“Learning in the 21st century is student-centric which means that teaching and learning must put the children, hopes and aspiration as a priority in the class”.

Also speaking at the event, the Principal Taiwo Akinlami Academy. Barrister Taiwo Akinlami said that schools will have better learning outcomes and positive behavioral change pattern when the schools environment is safe, and friendly.

He said that providing a learning environment that is safe, friendly and children-centric have been identify as factors that would enhance better learning outcomes in children.

“Schools should be warm and a nurturing place where pupils are cared for supported and protected which will make pupils connect to the school for better behavioral and learning output”, he said.

In his words, the CEO of CME Foundation, Ebenezer Odetola said that the aimed of the programme to activate the spirit of excellence among the teachers.

He said that for teachers to become a global brand, they must position themselves toward excellence performance in teaching”.
