About six days after the ghastly accident at Iworoko Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, the towwn’s monarch, Oba Michael Oluwafemi Aladejana, has died.
The late Oba Aladejana, who was said to be in his 80s, died early yesterday at an undisclosed hospital in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
News on the demise of the monarch filtered into town around 8 a.m yesterday.
When reporters visited the town around noon, the traditional rites had already begun with the cutting of the trees and blockage of the dual carriage Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki highway to pay the last respects to the departed king.
Youths and other age groups trooped to the streets, killing domestic animals, like goats and sheep they sighted roaming about, in line with traditional stipulations.
One of the prominent indigenes of the town, who spoke in confidence, said the accident worsened the health of the monarch.
He added: “Our monarch was taken to the hospital after the accident. Though he had been having health issues before the accident, but that incident really worsened the situation for him.
“When the news got to the town, he was said to have felt so devastated and the family had to rush him to the hospital early on Sunday.
“The sickness was said to have improved on Monday before it relapsed on Tuesday, causing his untimely death,” the source said.
