Technician arraigned for inflicting injuries on cousin over plate of food

A 59-year-old technician, Abiodun Rasheed, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating his seven-year-old cousin, Sharafa Lateef, over a plate of food.

Rasheed is facing a lone count charge bordering on assault before Chief Magistrate P.E. Nwaka.

Prosecuting Inspector (Insp.) Christopher John told the court that the incident happened on January 14 at their residence, 1, Agunbiade Street, Shomolu,

The prosecutor alleged that Rasheed beat up his cousin, Lateef over a plate of food left for the family.

John alleged that the technician used a pair of slippers to beat the boy severally and hit his head on the pavement.

He said the defendant inflicted injuries on the left eye and the head of the survivor.

He said Lateef, who was Rasheed’s elder sister’s son and had been living with him since he was four months old.

When the charge was read, Rasheed pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Nwaka, granted Rasheed bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have his address verified.

He adjourned the case till February 27.
