According to Onu Nicholas, a relative of the Onus, “The ADC of the Governor, Maxwell Umahi, who is the Deputy Chairman of PDP Ebonyi State, supervised the attack. They were getting directives from the governor, who was in a Peugeot car.
“The governor’s ADC slapped Prince Nwaeze Onu while the DPO of Ohaozora Divisional Police Headquarters handcuffed myself and Prince Nwaeze Onu.
“We were told that some non-indigenes from Uburu were with us, which was not true.
When The Nation’s correspondent in Ebonyi State put a call through to the APC chairman in the state, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu, he confirmed the story and handed the phone to Prince Nwaeze Onu, who was with him at the time. Onu confirmed the story, saying it was a horrible experience.
