The Sokoto State Police Command yesterday refuted the report that a suspected vehicle stuffed with thumb-printed ballot papers, believed to have been done by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, was arrested.

At a joint media briefing with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), police spokesman Muhammad Abubakar Sadiq said a stop-and-search team of the command intercepted a vehicle suspected to be loaded with thumb-printed ballot papers but was later discovered to be specimen.

He said: “We, therefore, understood that political parties are allowed to produce such specimen for voter education.

“But the suspect, the vehicle and the ballot papers specimen are in custody of the state command.”

Sadiq said the command was up to its responsibility of ensuring peaceful, smooth, free and fair elections.

The police spokesman warned that it would not condone the breaching of public peace.
