•Kidnappers demand N200m ransom

Two days after gunmen abducted the monarch of Ibiaku Ishiet in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Williams Etim, his whereabouts is still unknown.

Etim was said to have been kidnapped with his elder brother, Placid Eti, at 2:30am on Monday at their country in Ibiaku Ishiet.

A relative, Bassey Effiong Etim, said the kidnappers demanded N200 million ransom.

Etim, who is a former member of the House of Representatives, reportedly told reporters in Abuja that the hoodlums had established contact with him, demanding N200 million before the monarch and Etim could be freed.

He said: “They (abductors) called me at noon today (yesterday) to demand N200 million. I’m just wondering how I can raise that kind of money.”

Police spokesman Cordelia Nwawe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), confirmed the abduction.

She said the police would ensure that the monarch and his brother were released unhurt.

The spokesperson assured the family of the abducted men that the police was on top of the situation.
