Abducted naval officer rescued in Anambra

A naval officer kidnapped over the weekend in Onitsha Anambra State has been rescued.

A source from the state Naval Outpost, who confirmed the incident on condition of anonymity, said the officer, a Lieutenant, simply identified as Ozuowa was rescued by the military without any ransom paid.

The victim, currently serving at Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Ologbo was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday at Upper Iweka area of the city around 6:30p.m alongside unconfirmed number of civilians.

“Ozuowa was on transit from Portharcourt, Rivers State capital after he was released last Friday to attend his long course programme when the incident happened.

“He was ambushed with others regrettably at the Upper Iweka area in Onitsha. Quick Response Force (QRF) was deployed immediately,” the source said.

The Nation gathered the troops of Nigerian Army have been deployed at entry and exit points in the State, particularly in 

and around Onitsha on stop and search following the development.
