To get out of the biting economic recession, the Spiritual Leader of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide, Most Rev Samuel Abidoye, has called for massive reduction in the salaries and allowances of elected government officials and their aides.
This, he said, will enable the nation to save up enough money with a view to activation the economy.
He lamented that the current economic recession was having a debilitating effect on Nigerians.
Abidoye suggested such cuts in the allowances and salaries of public office holders should be used to take care of infrastructural deficit and unpaid workers’ salaries and pensions.
The clergyman spoke after an ecumenical service to mark 76th annual general conference and convention of the church located along Ilorin-Ogbomoso road last week.
He said that political leaders in both executive and legislative arms of government were supposed to be examples for other Nigerians.
The cleric said some people embezzled national resources while millions of Nigerians cannot even afford ‘a cup of tea.’
He added: ”God is a wonderful God and He’s just keeping Nigeria alive because of poor people.
“We have to thank God because He could have destroyed the country and the entire world due to atrocities of many people.
”I pray and hope God will soon take the country out of the current economic depression not because of anything but poor people who are praying for Nigeria because the land is full of corrupt people.”
He admonished people to be prayerful and hopeful of better economic situation in the country, saying God is aware of the problem.
Abidoye also advised people to always pay their tithe and change their attitude towards contributing to God’s work.
He assured their lives would always witness increased blessings and comfort when they spend on God’s work.
