AD grants Oke waiver

The leadership and members of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), through its National Executive Council (NEC), yesterday granted waiver to Olusola Oke as its candidate for the November 26 governorship election.

The waiver exempts Oke from all encumbrances and protocols and entitles him to stand for election in Ondo State.

A communiqué issued in Abuja after the NEC meeting said: “After a careful and exciting deliberation during the NEC meeting on November 17, the NEC hereby adopts the following resolution as issued: That we, as members of this great party applaud the success recorded in the election process for the Ondo election.

“That the leadership and members of the AD, via NEC, grant waiver to Chief Olusola Alex Oke as a candidate for the governorship election under the party’s canopy.

“By this waiver, Olusola Alex Oke is hereby exempted from all encumbrances and protocols and entitled to stand for election as a governorship candidate in Ondo State.

“That AD members have agreed principally to work in unity under the able leadership of Chief Joseph Avazi, the National Chairman.

“That AD in general and NEC hereby move a vote of confidence on the leadership of Chief Avazi and Pa Akinfenwa Mojisola as National Leader.”

Communities in Akoko in the Northern Senatorial District have lamented the lack of good roads in the four local governments in the area.

Residents said the state of the roads was negatively affecting their activities.

 They appealed to Oke to come to their rescue.

They  spoke during the AD candidate’s campaign tour of Akoko North West Local Government Area  yesterday.

Speaking at their palaces,  Zaki of Arigidi Oba Yisa Olanipekun; Akala of Ikaram Oba Andrew Momodu and  Elefifa of Effa Oba Akintola Ogunmodede expressed delight in the choice of Oke’s running mate, Ganny Dauda.

Oba Ogunmodede, who spoke on behalf of the eight monarchs in Ajowa Akoko,  lamented the dilapidated state of Ajowa and other Akoko roads.

The Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation yesterday condemned fresh destruction and removal of its billboards and banners by men of the Ondo State Signage Agency (OSSA).

 It called on security agents  to come to its rescue.

In a statement in Akure,the Chairman of  Media and Publicity, Kolawole Olabisi, said: ”When contacted, OSSA Chairman  Remi Ofakunrin said he was acting based on instructions from above.

“This is part of a grand plot to throw the state into crisis, thereby falling into their trap of creating a semblance of insecurity and breach of peace.

“We are appealing to  security agents to come to our rescue.

“Next week’s election must hold and nobody, however highly placed, must be allowed to thwart the massive desire of the masses.”
