Adeleke sheds tears of joy as INEC declares him winner

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, shed tears of joy yesterday.

This happened immediately the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced him as the winner of the poll.

Adeleke defeated incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by polling 403,371 against the governor’s 375,027 votes.

The governor-elect, in a video obtained by The Nation, was seen sitting with his elder brother and sister, Deji Adeleke and Dupe Adeleke; Edo and Bayelsa Governors Godwin Obaseki and Douye Diri with the party’s supporters at the home of the Adelekes to monitor the announcement of election.

Immediately INEC announced him as the winner of the poll, the Osun West senator stood up and prostrated to his elder brother.

He hugged him and they both held their heads closer to each other.

Few seconds later, the governor-elect was in tears while Deji helped him to wipe off his face.

The elder brother patted the governor-elect on the back to reduce the emotional reaction to his victory.

One of the aides called for a handkerchief for the governor-elect.

Adeleke joined politic in 2017 after the death of his elder brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, who was the first civilian governor of Osun State.
