A splash of colours! That is what comes to mind when you see the adire fabric. It comes in variety of exciting colours and designs that you cannot resist. The excitement these days comes with the creative dyeing techniques originally started with indigo.
Yeside Laguda recently introduced a collection that goes down memory lane celebrating Nigeria’s heroines with a modern twist in her wearable pieces.
Lagudu explained that “We are honouring women who have fought for our independence, our freedom and democracy. These women include Funmilayo Ransome Kuti (Lioness of Lisabi), Emotan Uwaraye, Queen Amina, Flora Nwapa , Moremi Ajasoro (the courageous queen), Margaret Ekpo , Dora Akinyuli and Stella Adadevoh.”
She added: “I decided to go into adire designs mainly to express myself and to influence my environment as well as to give people what will look good on them. It is not enough for us to say Nigeria, but Nigeria. We really have to do something about it by making our own products and buying them, especially our fabrics. This way we keep our money here, prevent our money from going out and together we can grow the economy.”
