The Nigeria Academy of Education has said for Africa to experience development in all sectors of its economy, adequate attention must be given to education.
The association said education was the foundation of development.
The President of the academy, Prof. Elizabeth Eke, spoke at the West African Education Conference organised by the academy in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja.
The conference had “Education for Global and regional integration and competitiveness” as its theme.
Eke, in a statement yesterday, added that education was directly responsible for the development of many nations.
“Issues of curriculum, culture, technology, inclusive education and funding dominated discussion at the four day conference with hope that its outcome will provide policy direction for member nations,” the statement said.
Prof. Emeritus Otonti Nduka attributed the decay in education to the lack of professional teachers either as minister at federal level or commissioner at the state level.
