For the second time in less than ten days, the House of Representatives is to hold an emergency plenary session to “deliberate on critical issues of national importance.” At its last emergency sitting on Wednesday, May 4, the House had adjourned till May 24, 2022 to allow members participate in primaries of their various political parties ahead of the 2023 elections. A one paragraph statement from the Clerk to the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria did not give details of the issues to be discussed during the emergency sitting.
It simply read: “This is to inform all Hon Members, staff, media and the general public that the House hereby recalls all Hon. Members for an emergency plenary session against Monday, 9th May, 2022 at 2:00pm. It is particularly intended to discuss critical issues of national importance. The House regrets any inconvenience this short notice would have caused.” Except House of Representatives does not sit on Mondays.
Meanwhile, Youths from Akoko South Federal Constituency of Ondo State have asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure an automatic return ticket for Rep Ade Adeogun, as its candidate for the House of Representatives in the 2023 general elections. They said the call became necessary in view of the quality representation by the lawmaker who has redefined representation in the area, adding that they have began mobilising the people of Akoko South to ensure he emerge unopposed during the general election.
Rising from the meeting in Abuja, the youths under the aegis of Akoko South Progressive Youths (ASPY) said Adeogun has given the area unparalleled representation since his election and stands out as the best representative from the area. Spokesperson of the youths, Merit Ogolo Temidayo, said they were ready to commit their energy to the mobilisation and campaign for the re-emergence of Adeogun as the candidate and member to represent the constituency in the forthcoming election.
“To this end, we have taken it upon ourselves to mobilise, campaign and canvass for support towards the reelection of Hon. Adeogun. We invite the media to work with us not by just reporting our efforts alone but by informing the larger society of the truth concerning the man at the centre of this campaign and those out there working to arrest the development of our land by imposing an alternative that is unpopular, incapable and lacking in capacity on us,” he said.
