Agency bans indiscriminate erection of political billboards

The Osun State Signage Agency has banned pasting of political posters in some designated areas across the state.

The agency responsible for regulating placement of advertisement in public areas said its approval must be sought before erection of campaign billboards in some designated places across the state.

In a statement, the Executive Vice Chairman of the agency, Mrs. Dupe Ajayi-Gbadebo, warned that anyone who contravenes the directive will be prosecuted and the offender wiil be made to remove such posters or refund the expenses incurred in removing them.

Ajayi-Gbadebo said: “We are concerned about erection of billboards in different parts of the state without due authorisation. We see this as act of criminality.

“In many cases, approval are sought and granted by politicians for certain number of billboards in specified locations only for them to increase the number and extend the erections to areas where approval were not sought. This is dubious and unexpected of people desiring to lead the state.”

She threatened to make public, the names of politicians and political parties indulging in the act.
