Coach Peter Ahmedu of First Bank Basketball Club will undergo a refresher course in the United State while on a five-week visit.
The assistant coach of the Women National Team, D’Tigress in an online chat with NationSport said that he is in the US to learn more about changes in basketball rules to make him a better coach. He also stated that he would meet with the head coach of the national team, Sam Vincent.
He said his programme would begin with enlightenment course in New York after which he would work with Georgia Tech and Eric Community School in Buffalo, where he would be on internship.
“The idea of travelling to the US is to update my knowledge about the new rules. I attend coaching course every two years and I am sure what I will learn now will help me improve on my job at First Bank and the national team,” Ahmedu added.
Speaking on his proposed meeting with Vincent, Ahmedu said the discussion would centre on monitoring of players and programme for the World Cup in Spain in July. “This trip will also give me the chance to meet with Sam Vincent and discuss our World Cup programme. We all know that we need our best players at the event, so the need to get the best players to camp.”
It is recalled that Ahmedu was one of the assistants to Vincent when the D’Tigress won the Afrobasket in Mali. He also led First Bank Basketball Club to another bronze medal finish at the FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women (ACCW) in Angola last month.
