The carrier said despite the incident, the flight crew skillfully implemented the standard procedure in such circumstance to calm down all 33 passengers on board.
In a statement, the airline said it complied with the COVID-19 procedure after the aircraft came to a halt on the Lagos Airport Runway 18 Right to disembark all passengers row by row. The carrier stressed that no passenger was hurt in any way.
Overland Airways lauded the professional intervention of aviation agencies – Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) – which were prompt and reassuring.
On the cause of smoke on the aircraft, the airline said: “We wish to inform that our aircraft on flight OF1188 from Ilorin to Lagos experienced an unusual high turbine temperature in one of its engines. This occurred in the approach phase of flight and the aircraft landed very safely.”
