Air Force redeploys branch chiefs, AOCs, spokesperson in major shake-up

•Customs appoints three ACGs, promotes 1,490 senior officers

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday in Abuja approved the appointment and redeployment of new Branch Chiefs, Air Officers Commanding (AOCs), Commandants of Tri-Service and NAF Institutions.

It also approved the appointment of a new spokesperson and other senior officers.

Group Capt. Joel Abioye of NAF’s Directorate of Public Relations and Information, said the new postings and redeployment were part of a routine aimed at ensuring operational efficiency and effective service delivery.

Abioye said the appointments were approved by the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao.

A former Chief of Policy and Plans, AVM Jackson Yusuf, was appointed as Chief of Defence Policy and Plans (CDPP), while the erstwhile Commandant of the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre in Lagos, AVM Idi Lubo, took over as Chief of Policy and Plans.

The immediate past Commandant of the Air Force Institute of Technology, AVM Mohammed Yakubu, is now the Chief of Aircraft Engineering, while a former CDPP at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), AVM Ayoola Jolasinmi, is now the Chief of Defence Space Administration.

“The erstwhile Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College at Jaji, AVM Anthony Tuwase, is now the Chief of Defence Transformation and Innovation (CDTI) at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in Abuja.

“In the same vein, AVM Paul Masiyer is now the Chief of Logistics, HQ NAF; AVM Ibikunle Daramola, the erstwhile Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Ground Training Command, Enugu, is appointed the Chief of Communications Information Systems.

“AVM Samuel Chinda now takes over as Chief of Air Intelligence, NAF, while AVM Anthony Ndace is now the Air Secretary, NAF.

“Also affected by the new appointments is AVM Emmanuel Wonah, former Chief of Aircraft Engineering, who is now the Commandant Armed Forces Command and Staff College at Jaji.

“AVM Charles Ohwo, a former CDTI, has now been appointed as the Commandant Armed Forces Resettlement Centre in Lagos; AVM Paul Jemitola, the immediate past Air Secretary, is now the Commandant of Air Force Institute of Technology in Kaduna.

“AVM Abraham Adole is the new Commandant of Air Force War College in Makurdi (Benue State),” Abioye stated.

Other new appointments are those of AVM Sayo Olatunde, a former Commandant Air Force War College, who is now the AOC of Ground Training Command in Enugu, and AVM Ebimobo Ebiowe, now the AOC Mobility Command in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Abioye added that the former Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, was appointed Commander of 551 NAF Station in Jos, the Plateau State capital, while Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida is now the new NAF spokesman.

“Air Commodore Olayinka Oyesola takes over as the Air Component Commander (Joint Task Force Northeast) Operation Hadin Kai.

“Air Marshal Amao charged the officers to bring their professional experiences to bear and to continually explore new methods of proffering workable solutions and renewed strategies to resolving the security challenges in the country.

“The newly appointed and redeployed senior officers are expected to assume their offices on or before Friday, January 6,” the statement added.

Also, the Board of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) yesterday announced the appointment of three Assistant Comptrollers General (ACGs) as well as the promotion of 1,490 senior officers of General Duty and Support Staff to various ranks with effect from January 1, 2023.

Breaking down the appointments, the statement named the three ACGs as: Greg Itotoh, Festus Okun, and Shuaibu Ibrahim.

It added that some of the newly promoted Comptrollers are: the Customs National PRO Timi Bomodi, Musa Omale, Zanna Chiroma, Stanley Nwankwo, Ajibola Odusanya, Paul Ekpenyong, Abubakar Umar, Maureen Ajuzieogu, M. O. Bewaji, among others.

A full statistics of the board’s approval showed three ACGs; 64 Deputy Comptrollers (DCs) to Comptrollers of Customs (CCs); 128 Assistant Comptrollers (ACs) to Deputy Comptrollers (DCs).

It also showed that 89 Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSCs) were promoted to Assistant Comptrollers (ACs); 220 Superintendents of Customs (SCs) were elevated to Chief Superintendent Customs (CSCs); 107 Deputy Superintendents of Customs (DSCs) were promoted to Superintendents of Customs (SCs); 302 Assistant Superintendents of Customs I (ASC I) were elevated to Deputy Superintendents of Customs (DSCs); 223 Assistant Superintendents of Customs II (ASC II) got promoted to Assistant Superintendents of Customs I (ASC I); and 357 Inspectors of Customs (ICs) were moved up to Assistant Superintendents of Customs II (ASC II).

The statement said the NCS management had earlier approved the promotion of 1,252 officers within the ranks of Inspectors and Customs Assistant cadres.

The agency’s Comptroller General, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (retd.), congratulated the newly appointed and promoted officers.

In his message, Ali advised them to redouble their efforts to ensure that the service achieves its goals.
