CONCERNED youths in Sagamu, Ogun State, have appealed to Governor Ibikunle Amosun – led administration to facilitate the process leading to the selection and installation of the next Akarigbo of Remoland by giving directive to that effect. The youths in their hundreds who staged a peaceful protest at the Isale – Oko area of Sagamu, few metres away from the Palace of Akarigbo, said since Oba Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo joined his ancestors last year, the town is without a traditional head.
A man identified as Niyi Nojeem, who led the protesters bearing placards, said they want a new Akarigbo to be installed without unnecessary delay, to lead the town from where the last Oba stopped as well as galvanise the people for further “socio – cultural and economic development of Sagamu and Remoland.” The Nation gathered that many princes, including two professors, from Torungbuwa Ruling House have indicated interest in the race to occupy the vacant stool of the Akarigbo of Remoland and some of them are Prof. Adewale Solarin, Prof. Gabriel Ogunmola, Tunde Ajayi, Mutiu Adebayo and Akeeb Kazeem.
The Nation learnt further that based on the state government’s gazette on chieftaincy declaration, Torungbuwa Ruling house is the one to produce the next Akarigbo and the process had begun with the town’s Kingmakers working already but the youths “earnestly begged” Amosun to expedite action about it. In a telephone conversation with The Nation, the President of Sagamu Youth Congress, Mr Segun Okeowo, said the prayers of the youths are in order since it was done in a peaceful atmosphere, and expressed the hope that the governor would answer them.
