Akwa Utd pay over 300k to use UJ Esuene Stadium

Akwa United played their Glo Premier League Week 12 tie against Kwara United at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar and not the newly built Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo and they had to part with more than N300,000 before they were allowed to prosecute the match, a top source informed SportingLife.

The Promise Keepers’ first port of call was the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo shortly after (LMC) placed a ban on the Uyo Township Stadium but they were told that the Akwa Ibom State Government has not been officially handed the keys to the stadium because the contractor that handled the job has not been paid.

The source told SportingLife that fans of the Akwa United have shown their displeasure at the state government’s failure to tidy up work on the stadium which include paying the contractor so that he would be able to hand over the keys to the stadium to the government.

The source further disclosed that Akwa United had to resort to the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar and had to also run from pillar to post to raise the over N300,000 the stadium manager and others in charge of the stadium charged as the fees to be paid before the game could go ahead.
