No fewer than 10 travellers from Lagos State going to the north were accosted at the weekend by men of the Osun Security Network codenamed Amotekun.
The develpoment was said to have followed an intelligence that insurgents were planning to invade Osun, Ogun and Oyo forests.
It was gathered that the travellers who rode on motorcycles were stopped at Osu in Atakunmosa West Local Government Area of Osun State .
The Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun, Brig-Gen Bashir Adewinbi confirmed that 10 travellers on motorcycles from Lagos going to the north, were accosted following an intelligence that terrorists and bandits were planning to relocate to Oyo, Ogun and Osun.
He said that the travellers were held and searched, but they were later released because they were not armed as claimed by the intelligence reports.
According to him, we are working in collaboration with other security agencies to tackle banditry and terrorism in Osun following the intelligence report which is subjected to confirmation.
“We heard such intelligence several times and conducted our investigation through the Divisional Police Officers in the areas identified in the report. We have not seen anything like that.
“We only accosted some travellers in Ife who are traveling on bike to the north, they were coming from Lagos. We stopped them at Osu and we searched them, we found nothing on them. When we found out that they are clean, we released them because we don’t want to infringe on their human rights.
“People are panicking , we are aware that the criminals are planning some funny things but we have strategised for them to avert their attack. We have personnel who are fortified with traditional power to secure lives and property. I urged them that the public should not be jittery of the threat or alarm, we are prepared to secure the lives of our people. Nothing will happen to any residents of the state.
He added that the outfit is prepared to tackle banditry and terrorism by collaborating with other security agencies.
