Anger over arrest, detention of eight-year-old in Ogun

There was anger yesterday over the arrest and detention of an eight-year-old boy at a police station in Ajuwon, Ogun State.

Oyindamola, a pupil of Prospect Primary School, Akute, was allegedly whisked away by his teacher and a police officer, have been kept in detention since Wednesday.

The Nation gathered that Oyindamola’s mother, Mrs. Nimota Omole, was also detained at the station when she attempted to bail her child.

It was learnt that the teacher, identified as Mrs Oni, is the wife of the police officer who arrested and detained the minor.

According to a source, the teacher maltreated Oyindamola, who reported the beating to his mother.

The mother subsequently went to the school where she complained about the assault on her boy, but this action, it was learnt, only drew more assault on the boy later by the teacher.

Not done, the teacher and her policeman husband stormed their victim’s home and allegedly abducted him.

When Mrs Omole returned from work about 10pm, she proceeded to the police station when neighbours informed her about her son’s experience but got detained as well.

The child’s father, Olalekan Omole, who confirmed the arrest and detention of his wife and son, said his son was taken away on a motorcycle.

“At 6:30pm, the teacher and her husband, who is a policeman, went to our house and forcibly took my son. They used a motorcycle to pick my son.

“When my wife returned about 10pm and got to the station around 10:30pm, requesting to get her child released, she was equally detained at the station. All this happened because of the influence of the teacher, whose husband happened to be a police officer at the station.

Police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi told reporters that he was not aware of the incident but assured that would inquire about it.
