Anxiety as lightning kills three in Imo communities

Lightening has killed three persons in Ndegwu community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

The deceased were identified as Emeka Mbah from Umuejekubi, Umuahum and Chigbo Odionye from Umuadi Umuogwuta.

A source from the community, who stated this on Tuesday, said both victims and others were busy working at a new site in the community when the incident occurred.

The lightning struck the deceased and two others working at the building site but the other two were said to be lucky as they were slightly buried by the thunder.

While the deceased were taken to a nearby hospital by youths of the community, the other two returned to their homes with little bruises.

A reliable source from the community told our correspondent on Tuesday that a white ram was earlier noticed moving around the community which they said was a bad omen.

“We saw a white ram moving up and down. This is not a good omen at all. It did not take long before the lightning struck and killed the two youths.

” Nobody expected the light thunder to kill them. The rain was not much and the lightning was not heavy. We are still wondering what really happened, its the first time such will happen”.

Wives of the two victims expressed sadness over the development with one of them said to be nursing a six-old- month baby.

Another case was recorded at Umuoba, Orogwe same day when lightning struck an automobile electrician simply known as Edi.

He has since been buried according to the source.
