APC campaign list, programmes for harmonisation

APC Chairman Adamu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled a meeting for tomorrow in Abuja to harmonise its campaign membership list and time-table.

Expected at the meeting are members of the National Working Committee (NWC), governors under the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and members of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

The meeting will also review and approve the proposed schedule of activities for the nationwide campaign prepared by the PCC, to accommodate the two programmes proposed by the NWC.

At its meeting last Wednesday, the tripartite committee agreed to set up a conflict resolution mechanism on all the issues that may affect the presidential campaign and the chance of the ruling party at the poll.

A source within the party confided in The Nation in confidence that the meeting would afford NWC and governors to present names of party members to be included on the initial 422 campaign council membership list released by the PCC Secretary, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke.

The source said: “The Tuesday (tomorrows) meeting will be the clearing house for the campaign council membership list. NWC has names of some loyal and dedicated party members that are to be included on the list while the meeting will also accommodate the list earlier submitted by the governors.

“You will recall that our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has advised that more people should be accommodated on the campaign council, and from the understanding reached last Wednesday, the next meeting will be used to bring on board all stakeholders for successful and peaceful campaign activities.”

On the schedule of activities for the campaign programme, it was gathered that the meeting will review the proposed presidential campaign programme drawn up by the PCC.

The Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led NWC will be using the meeting to also push for the inclusion of its proposed national conference and zonal tour of the committee to be embedded in the campaign schedule.

The source said: “The NWC had planned to embark on a thank-you tour of the zones shortly after the convention but shelved the idea to organise the special national convention and presidential primary.

“At one of the NWC meetings, it was resolved that the zonal tour can be merged with the presidential campaign to leverage the nationwide campaign of the Presidential candidate and to save cost.

“For the proposed national conference, the party’s national chairman will be presenting details of the conference which is designed as a brain stormy session that will produce a workable plan for solving some national challenges.

“The crucial meeting will also review the manifesto of the party’s presidential candidate to ensure that it conforms with the party’s manifesto, vision and mission. This is to ensure that both the party and our candidate are on the same page and we all can run with the manifesto.”

Asked when the presidential campaign will kick-off, our source simply said: “Technically, the campaigns have since September 28 started, but the official kick-off date will be determined after all the ongoing consultations and meetings.

“The party leadership and our presidential candidate will then meet with President Muhammadu Buhari who is both the party’s National leader and the chairman of the PCC and agree on the date.”

Pressured to be specific on the date, the source said: “When we start, we shall hit the ground running and take over the political landscape of the country. Nigerians should expect an issue-based campaign from our party.”
