APC chief offers ‘lasting solution’ to Ogbe-Ijoh crisis

A chieftain  of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Chief Michael Johnny, has urged the state government to acquire the disputed piece of land causing protracted interethnic crisis between Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja in Warri South-West and Udu local government areas.

Johnny, who addressed reporters yesterday in Warri, urged Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to end the crisis as his legacy to the people.

The chairman of Egbema/Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation said it was worrisome the government had failed all these years to resolve the boundary dispute, over which many  had died and property destroyed.

He said: “I am calling on Governor Okowa, being the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the state, to use part of the security vote fund to acquire the ‘disputed land’ from both communities, because all panel of enquiries set up by Okowa and previous administration on this matter produced no result.

“I know Okowa inherited the Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja land dispute. Let it also be on record that it was Governor Okowa who permanently resolved the land dispute. This should be his thinking and legacy and not playing politics with the crisis. Acquiring the disputed land from both communities is the lasting solution.”
