A member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, has endorsed the presidential aspiration of APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and 2nd term bid of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The GAC is the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s highest decision-making body in Lagos.

Basorun, a former Secretary to the Lagos State Government, and Ikorodu apex leader, also endorsed the 2nd term aspiration of Senator Tokunbo Abiru and Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) member representing Ikorodu Constituency 2, Nurudeen Saka Solaja.

Basorun, who stated this while hosting APC delegates and other party chieftains of his Ikorodu caucus at his Igbogbo residence, also addressed questions concerning his support for Solaja, a two-time LAHA member.

Giving three reasons for his decision, the APC national delegate explained that it aligned with the party’s directive, adding that Solaja’s constituency 2 had been cheated for 23 years in clinching a principal position in Lagos State.

Basorun said: “The party’s directive is that we should not prevent nobody from contesting at the primaries; if the people want him or not, let him go and face the primary.

“Also at the inception of democracy, Ikorodu Constituency II since 1999 has not benefitted from any of the seven principal offices in the Lagos State House of Assembly and we want the incumbent state lawmaker to be part of the principal officers so that more dividends of democracy will come to the doorsteps of our constituency, a newcomer cannot do that for us”.

The senior lawyer further referenced Solaja’s performance in office as an advantage, saying “I can attest to his landmark achievements with impactful footprints in the three local councils (Igbogbo, ijede, and Imota LCDAs) that make up Ikorodu Constituency 2.

“He performed creditably on semi-urban, and rural roads upgrades across the 13 wards yearly, state-facilitated full construction and reconstruction of new and ongoing roads, education, youth and women empowerment, social amenities, human-capital development, industrialisation and improving of Ikorodu Constituency II’s local economy, employment, and others.

“For me, as a constituency that is just growing up with population explosion, our base is in dire need of sporadic development and a sound experienced state legislator that would be part of the principal officers in the next 10th Assembly of Lagos State.

“NS deserves our support to return and attract more meaningful development to Ikorodu Constituency 2,” Basorun said.

He also xtrayed governance at the local council level and moved a motion for a vote of confidence on Builder Olusesan Daini, which was seconded by a stakeholder in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Alhaja Akilo and unanimously endorsed by the entire APC caucus.

A similar motion for Solaja’s return, moved by Mr. Emilola Benson from Ward C3, Youth Leader of Justice Forum in Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA and seconded by Aarebirin Yeye Alogba, was also endorsed by the caucus.

Responding, Solaja appreciated Basorun, all the Apex leaders of Ikorodu division, APC stakeholders in Basorun’s political group and delegates for backing his aspiration.

Solaja salutes the courage and positive political trajectory of a co-aspirant Hon. Hammed Aroyewun (HOA) who later withdrew his aspiration from the race, and assures that he would continue to consolidate on all the good works that he has started along with other related activities, while forging paths for new ones.
