APC won’t rig Oyo council poll, Ajimobi promises

Ahead of the forthcoming local government election in Oyo State on February 11, 2019, the state governor, Sen Abiola Ajimobi has promised that All Progressives Congress (APC) will not rig the election.

Ajimobi gave this assurance during the 2017 empowerment programme organised by the lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial district, Sen Monsurat Sunmonu, held in Ibadan.

According to him, I or APC will not rig election for any of our candidates because we have promised to organise a free, fair and credible election in the state.

“We need to ensure unity if we want to win the election, without unity we cannot win the forthcoming election. We can do direct, indirect or consensus election to pick our candidate but consensus election is the best option where all of us will come together to pick the candidates.

The governor who described the direct primaries in electoral process as cumbersome said that the party can also go for indirect primaries if consensus did not work.

“Our best option in APC is consensus or the indirect primaries, but we shall go for indirect primaries where some party chieftains will come together and vote for an aspirants. I appeal to you all to ensure unity among all members of the party. We can remain solid and be a ruling party only if we work together in unity.

“There should be no division in Oyo APC, there should be no SENACO or LAMIST group in Oyo APC. These groups are dead and I am the only leader in Oyo APC and anybody that is not satisfy with that should leave the party for us” he said
