Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu has set up a 24-member committee to oversee the rehabilitation of Apo A-F Resettlement Market.
Inaugurating the committee yesterday in Abuja, Adamu said members cannot afford to fail, thus the project should be completed without rancour.
He challenged members to work in partnership with stakeholders such as Urban Shelter Limited, Department of Resettlement and Compensation and AMAC officials as the project has a potential to increasing government revenue.
In his remarks, Urban Shelter’s representative Bala Kwatu said the N10 billion project would begin in next month.
He said it would involve building of 2400 shops ranging from N1,050,000 to N27 million, adding that the implementation committee was expected to ensure smooth implementation of the project within the time frame.
According to him, the market operation model would be to Build Sale Operate and Transfer (BSOT).
Kwatu said: “If you go there, the structure in place does not make it conducive for traders to do business. So, our coming in is to provide a modern market that will make it easier for traders to do business.
“We are constructing 2,400 shops that are affordable and we hope to abide by all implementation rules agreed with the government.
“We bring in our money, we recoup by selling some of the shops and we will transfer some percentage to AMAC after managing it for 15 to 20 years.”
“The shops range from three square metres, five, 10, 12, 13, 30 and 27. Banking hall, restaurants, toilets, access roads and other facilities will be provided,” he added.
Chairman of the committee, Yahaya Ahmed appealed to his members to cooperate so that the market can be opened by June.
