Loyalists of Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola under the aegis of The Osun Progressives (TOP) faction of All Progressives Congress(APC), have urged the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to redeploy the Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode from the state over alleged compromise.
The Nation reports that hoodlums numbering about five invaded the campaign office of Aregbesola situated at Gbodofon area on Thursday evening, shooting sporadically at the building and property within the premises.
The factional Chairman of APC, Hon. Rasaq Salinsile during a press conference held on Friday accused CP Olokode of taking sides in the ongoing crisis in the party.
Salinsile accused Olokode of aiding a series of politically motivated attacks on some of them who are members of The Osun Progressives (TOP).
He claimed that Olokode had refused to act on a series of petitions and security information sent to him prior to the politically motivated attacks on Aregbesola’s loyalists.
Salinsile said: “The worst is that we are being punished by the Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode whenever such attack happens. This evil occurrence of punishing us for offence committed against us by the police has been the order of the day.”
“We, therefore, call on Olokode to ask the Inspector General of Police to post him out of Osun. We plead with the Inspector General of Police to please expeditiously transfer Olokode from Osun with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, CP Olokode has vowed that perpetrators will be brought to book while directing the Command Tactical Teams to embark on a rigorous and intensive investigation to fish out the perpetrators in order to face the full wrath of the law.
A statement by the police spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola disclosed that “ CP Olokode has visited the campaign office to conduct on the spot assessment, and assured that the police will tackle any form of crime in the state.”
