Members of the Arewa Students Forum Friday honored Yobe State Deputy Governor Engr. Abubakar Aliyu for his contribution to the lives of the down trodden in the society.
The Union which is a single and most powerful voice of northern students of higher institutions across the country also endorsed the deputy governor as the successor of his boss come 2019 as governor.
The students who presented a medal of honor and a certificate of meritorious service said they decided to honor Engr. Aliyu for his contribution to the upliftment of children of the poor to acquire education in the state.
The leader of the delegation Comrade Yusuf Maji from Bayer University explained that Engr. Aliyu has sponsored several students to different institutions of learning from within his immediate environment and beyond which is why the Forum decided to honor him.
The PRO of the body Lasisi Ismail while describing the sterling leadership qualities of Engr. Aliyu also prayed that he will by the grace of God succeed his boss as the governor come 2019.
In his response, Yobe State Engr. Abubakar Aliyu said he is grateful to the student for finding him worthy of the award.
He noted that the award has challenged him to do more in the upliftment of the less privilege in the society, adding that what he does is for humanity and so he doesn’t published most of the things.
He called on the students to strive hard and acquire good education so as to be impact full in the society.
“Education is the bedrock of the society and only a better educated population can make the country great. I want to encourage you to take your studies seriously. Put your studies first before any other thing and be obedient to your teachers and parents. Encourage one another to avoid bad things in the society,” Engr. Aliyu advised.
He recalled the good old days of his school days where they use to write letters and drop at motor parks to communicate home, stressing that modern technology has brought so many opportunities and you need to take advantage of them”.
Speaking on his endorsement as governor by the students, Engr. Aliyu cautioned the students not to delve into political matters of the state that they have no good knowledge of.
“I think it’s better for you people to campaign for me to be the Grand Petron of Arewa students not a governor.
“In Yobe we have a leader in person of our dear governor Ibrahim Gaidam and we have a structure of doing our politics in the state. When the time comes, we all sit down and our leader decides on who takes positions in the state. This is what we have been doing without any rancour,” Engr. Aliyu explained.
On a final note, the Deputy Governor advised them not to relent but fight had to achieve any dream of their choice in life.
