Army camp attacked in Borno

ISWAP

A military camp in Borno came under enemy attack yesterday with a soldier killed in the incident.

A security source said Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP) fighters invaded a military super camp at Ngamdu off the Maiduguri/Damaturu Expressway but soldiers engaged them in a shootout that lasted about an hour.

An eyewitness said the gunfire exchange caused many residents to flee to neighbouring communities, some into the bushes.

The Nation gathered that the insurgents did not enter the town but focused their attack on the military camp.

The source said the hostilities lasted till an Air Force jet flew in and started bombing the insurgents.

“We continued to hear the gunshots until a fighter jet came and bombarded them,” one Modu Ngamdu said.

A security source said an unspecified number of the insurgents were killed, and that a soldier also paid the supreme price.
