Aseyin of Iseyin joins ancestors

Aseyin of Iseyin

The 28th Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abdul Ganiyy Salawudeen, has joined his ancestors.

He breathed his last at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan yesterday morning after a protracted illness, which had confined him to hospital bed for over two weeks.

A source close to him said the monarch had been admitted at the private suite of the hospital for over two weeks before he succumbed to the cold hands of death. He was said to be 62 years old.

Aseyin’s passage was the fourth among first-class obas in Oyo State after the late Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, died last December. Former Olubadan of Ibadan Oba Saliu Adetunji and Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III joined their ancestors in January and April.

Confirming his death, the Head of Public Relations Unit of the UCH, Mr Toye Akinrinlola, said Oba Salawudeen joined his ancestors yesterday morning, adding that his remains were at the morgue of the hospital.

Governor Seyi Makinde yesterday described the death of the Aseyin as shocking and painful.

He said the death of the monarch was a huge loss to the state, as he was an exemplary leader and a true believer in the progress and development of the state.

A statement from the family said his remains would be buried today (Monday).

The statement was signed by the Secretary to the Aseyin family, Prince Femi Olaore.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, the governor commiserated with the Aseyin-in-Council and the entire Iseyin community as well as the traditional council in the state.

Makinde, who described the late Aseyin as a great royal achiever, said he went about the business of developing Iseyin with the positive aggression of a change agent, who would stop at nothing to achieve his vision.
