Association seeks empowerment for members

The Ikorodu West Deaf Development Association (IKWDDA) has appealed to the Chairman of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Sulaimon Olanrewaju for the inclusion of the hearing impaired people in employment and empowerment opportunities as well as their welfare programmes. 

 Chairman of the association, Comrade Kuku Tosin said this during the 2nd Deaf Awareness Day at Ikorodu West Hall.

 Kuku said including them in employment and empowerment opportunities would reduce poverty and lacks amongst them and their families.

 He said: “The Importance of celebrating ‘Deaf Awareness Day’ is to bring into public consciousness and the society as a whole, the plight of the Deaf because it is a silent ailment. There are a plethora of issues pertaining to the deaf and deafness that public are not aware of, hence the day affords the opportunity to bring to the front burner of public discuss on such issues.

“We are aware that our council chairman, as an action man and a man of the people is doing his best to develop the community.”

 He requested that Olanrewaju carry them along in his administration as the association has been registered and given recognition by council’s Head of the Department of Agriculture.

 Kuku thanked Sekumade of Ipakodo Kingdom, Oba Basiru Sotonwa for his constant support for the association’s activities.
