Atom Kpera to chair Tor Tiv’s coronation

A former Military Governor of old Anambra and Benue States, Gen. Atom Kpera (rtd) will chair the coronation committee of the fifth Tor Tiv. Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to Governor Samuel Ortom, Titus Zam, is the Secretary.

The decision was arrived at yesterday when Ortom met with royal fathers in Tivland at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples House in Makurdi.

The meeting deliberated on the installation of first class chiefs and the new Tor Tiv.

Although no dates were chosen, it was agreed the event would hold towards the end of February or early March.

Membership of the committee include traditional rulers, leadership of the Mdzough U Tiv, state lawmakers, representatives of prominent political parties, Tiv Diaspora groups, prominent Tiv sons and daughters, as well as government officials.

A meeting at which details of the central committee membership would be concluded was scheduled for next Tuesday.

Ortom, after the meeting, presented vehicles to the six first class chiefs.

He said despite the economic challenges, it was imperative that government met its responsibility of providing mobility for the chiefs to enable them discharge their duties, which included enhanced security.

The Acting Tor Tiv, Chief Ivokor Unongo, thanked the governor and described the gift as unprecedented in the history of the state.
