Austria Wien new striker Olanrewaju Kayode has revealed to AfricanFootball.com why he requested for jersey number 8.
Kayode joined the Austrian club on a three-year deal and he has been assigned jersey number 8 which he asked for after passing a routine medical.
“I have jersey number 8 which I requested for. I asked for it and they promised to give me which they have fulfilled. I asked for it because it is my lucky number,” Kayode told AfricanFootball.com.
“I wore jersey number 8 at Maccabi Netanya and I scored goals, so I feel it’s a lucky number for me, so I decided to stick with it.”
The former U-17 and U-20 star scored 13 goals in 2013/2014 season to help Maccabi Netanya secure promotion and scored same number of goals in the Premier League to keep their position at the top wearing jersey number 8.
He also expressed his desire to surpass Benedict Akwuegbu’s record in Austria.
“I am here to do my best and make a statement. I wish to do better and create a better record than Benedict Akwuegbu did during his time in Austria by the grace of God,” he said.
Akwuegbu was named ‘The Austrian Bomber’ on account of his exploits for Grazer AK.
