Actor Taye Arimoro has reacted to his indefinite suspension by the industry’s top guilds, labelling their statement as “inaccurate” and vowing to contest the ruling legally.
The controversy surrounds an alleged physical assault on the set of “Pieces of Love” involving producer Peggy Ovire.
Arimoro claimed he was attacked after trying to leave the set when his scheduled call time elapsed.
He alleged that Ovire blocked his vehicle, leading to detention and assault by her team.
Arimoro is demanding N100 million compensation from Ovire, dismissing her account as “grossly misleading”.
Ovire, however, stated that Arimoro was the aggressor.
Following their investigation, the joint body of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), and the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) mandated Arimoro to, issue a public apology to Ovire and the director, release a corrective video stating the actual sequence of events and completed the remaining scenes under supervised conditions.
Arimoro assured that his legal team is addressing the claims, promising a comprehensive response.

Cross River State Government, weekend took a giant step toward strengthening its small business ecosystem, as the state Microfinance and Enterprise Development Agency (CRSMEDA) cleared 500 entrepreneurs to access the SMEDAN–Sterling Bank single-digit interest loan facility.
The step, according to the Director-General of Cross River State Microfinance and Enterprise Development Agency ( CRSMEDA), Mr. Great Ogban, was aimed at strengthening its small business ecosystem.
Speaking during an engagement session with beneficiaries, at the Prof. Eyo Ita House in Calabar, Ogban, said the initiative reflects Governor Bassey Otu’s unwavering commitment to expanding economic opportunities for small businesses.
He noted that more than 1,000 applications were received, with 500 selected after enterprise development training, business plan development and verification by an IFC-trained team.
“This is a 5% interest rate facility graciously approved by the Governor to support SMEs across the state,” he said. “We are dealing with real SMEs, and we are confident that this funding will stimulate the Cross River economy as these businesses scale up.”
Ogban added that repayment will follow a revolving structure over two to three years, allowing the fund to circulate to other entrepreneurs. To strengthen eligibility, the Governor also sponsored 1,000 free CAC certificates, issued during the engagement, with plans to scale up to 10,000 registrations next year.
On sustainability, Ogban highlighted CRSMEDA’s strong monitoring and evaluation framework, citing the agency’s recent tour across the state to verify utilisation of previous grants for retirees.
“Our M&E team will return to the field within six months to monitor compliance and growth,” he said. “Our mandate is to move nano enterprises to micro, micro to small, and small to medium.”

Dr. Seun Osamaye, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, made the declaration at an event heralding the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
Osamaye said the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa would no longer condone any form of GBV, including rape, defilement, domestic violence, and all forms of sexual or psychological abuse.
She noted that the government remained committed to building an inclusive society “where gender-based violence is not tolerated and where justice is accessible, timely, and uncompromised.”
According to her, this year’s campaign places special emphasis on digital violence, which she described as “silent, pervasive, and often overlooked.”
“Fighting against gender-based violence cannot be achieved effectively if digital violence is ignored,” she said.
Reaffirming the government’s resolve to eradicate all forms of violence against women and girls, Osamaye assured residents that the state would continue to work closely with civil society groups, traditional institutions, security agencies, and development partners to strengthen protection systems.
She added that every woman and girl has the right to live in dignity, safety, and equality, and directed relevant ministries and agencies to reinforce existing frameworks, enhance community sensitisation, and ensure full enforcement of laws safeguarding women and girls.

According to him, the AAI programme is intended to overhaul the Trains and Common Facilities, which are key to operations.
“The goal is to implement predictive maintenance and continue to deliver sustainable top quartile and reliability performance, continue to deliver gas and value to the country and retain NLNG’s position as the best company in the country,” he said.
Responding, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by the Director of Capacity Building, NCDMB, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, pledged NCDMB’s support for NLNG’s plans, in line with the existing close collaboration between the organizations and NCDMB’s role as a regulator and business enabler in the oil and gas industry.
He noted that NCDMB and NLNG had collaborated successfully to develop the first Service Level Agreement (SLA) between an operating company and a regulator in the Nigerian oil and gas industry and are currently working on other technical capacity building initiatives.
He recalled that NCDMB granted accelerated approvals for key projects in the NLNG Train 7, which enabled the project to commence in 2020 at the height of COVID-19 pandemic.
NCDMB equally granted speedy approvals and support for the new gas projects, which will provide feedstock for Train 7, he stated.
The Executive Secretary emphasized the need for NLNG to optimize Nigerian content and utilize in-country capacities in the proposed packages, in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act.
Speaking later at the Award Gala Dinner marking the formal conclusion of the Nigerian Content Stakeholders Retreat and Appreciation Night 2025, the Executive Secretary commended NLNG for the giant strides it had recorded with the Train-7 Project.
He expressed delight that the Train-7 Project currently employs thousands of workers, describing it as a huge contribution to the nation’s economy.
Pioneer Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Dr. Ernest Nwapa, noted that NLNG’s leadership in local content development went back many years, recalling that the company stood out as an early “icon of Nigerian Content” because of its voluntary compliance.
He added that NLNG also commissioned the industry’s first skills gap analysis, promptly circulating the findings to guide stakeholders and policymakers on priority capacity-building needs to strengthen in-country value addition.
He also commended the NCDMB for remarkable success in implementation of the NOGICD Act and achievements made so far.
The climax of the event was the presentation of awards to outstanding companies and individuals for their contributions to Nigerian Content development in Nigeria.
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has asked the Federal Government to pay outstanding promotion arrears to polytechnic workers.
The union also lamented worsening insecurity, growing economic hardship, and persistent threats to workers’ welfare across the country.
It lamented the prolonged delay in the release of the new Schemes and Conditions of Service for the Polytechnic sector.
National President of SSANIP, Philip Ogunsipe, said this during the 78th General Executive Council meeting of the union in Abuja, on Thursday.
The SSANIP president said, “The prolonged delay in the release of the new Schemes and Conditions of Service for the Polytechnic sector and the failure to conclude the renegotiation of the 2010 Agreement, despite repeated assurances by government officials.
“Similarly, we lament the non-release of the 2023 NEEDS Assessment Funds meant for infrastructural development in Polytechnics.”
Ogunsipe further condemned the recent unilateral submission of the reviewed Schemes of Service by the National Board for Technical Education to the Federal Ministry of Education, describing the action as “a deviation from agreed procedures and a serious breach of trust with labour unions.”
He added, “Some of the outstanding arrears owed to polytechnic staff include promotion arrears, 25%/35% salary review arrears, wage award arrears, and the incomplete implementation of the new national minimum wage.”
The union leader appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene and address the grievances of non-academic staff in Polytechnics, warning that continued neglect could trigger industrial unrest.
Also speaking, the National Secretary of SSANIP, Nura Gaya, urged the Federal Government to act decisively on the challenges confronting non-teaching staff, even as he encouraged workers to remain committed to their duties.
National Trustee of the union, Godwin Ikhide, called on workers to sustain peak performance and advised labour unions to remain united in pursuit of common goals.
Speaking on behalf of branches, Comrade Pepple Sidney, Branch Secretary of the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, said the meeting was convened to deliberate on critical issues affecting Polytechnics and to seek government support in tackling obstacles undermining the efficiency of non-academic staff.
Public health experts have urged that every nurse in Nigeria be covered by health insurance and backed by robust Employee Assistance Programmes, warning that without these protections, the country is risking the well-being of its caregivers and the quality of care patients receive.
The experts, on Wednesday in Abuja at the opening of the 25th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the West African Postgraduate College of Nurses and Midwives, Nigeria Chapter (WAPCNM), said the call became imperative given that nurses shoulder heavy workloads and endure emotional stress that can compromise their own well-being and, by extension, the quality of care they deliver.
Dr Lilly-West Buloala, Chairman of the Nigerian Chapter of WAPCNM, urged the Federal Government to prioritise the wellbeing of nurses, saying a healthier workforce is essential for an effective health sector.
She said the wellness of the nurse is inseparable from the wellness of the patient, noting that nurses and midwives, who stand on the frontline of care, continue to face emotional exhaustion, occupational stress, inadequate support structures, and limited financial protection.
She said health insurance for nurses is non-negotiable, lamenting that those who safeguard public health often lack adequate coverage.
“Health insurance is not merely a benefit. It is security, protection, and an anchor of retention,” she said.
Calling for EAP, Buloala stressed the need to institutionalise confidential and stigma-free support systems, including counselling, mental health services, crisis intervention, and workplace support to tackle burnout, compassion fatigue, anxiety, and depression.
Echoing the need to institutionalise supports for nurses, Dr Joan Shepherd, president of the West African Postgraduate College of Nurses and Midwives (WAPCNM), described the theme of the conference ”Healthy nurses, healthier patients: Advancing employee assistance programmes and health insurance in Nigeria’, as timely and essential for strengthening the health workforce.
She said the college will continue to pursue practical initiatives, including a planned Abuja-based project intended to support professional development.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), Ndagi Alhassan, argued that health insurance and comprehensive EAPs would offer practical support, ranging from mental health services to stress management and conflict resolution and help retain a resilient workforce.
Noting that the theme of the conference highlights a direct link between staff welfare and patient outcomes, Alhassan said, “The theme of this programme brings to the forefront the undeniable connection between the well-being of nurses and quality of care that patients receive.
“As we all know, nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system. Their health, mental well-being and job satisfaction are paramount to the quality of service we provide as a nation.
“Provision of EAPs and health insurance cover is critical in helping nurses cope with the demands of their profession. By introducing and expanding these programmes, we can address the challenges that nurses face and improve their overall health and work-life balance,”.
He added that affordable, comprehensive health cover for healthcare workers would provide security and encourage better service delivery.
“By advancing health insurance for nurses, we are making a significant investment in the future of healthcare delivery in Nigeria”, he said, urging policymakers and stakeholders to translate policy proposals into concrete, fundable programmes.
On his part, Haruna Mamman, National President of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), endorsed the conference focus, stressing that the health of patients is intimately tied to the health of caregivers.
Quoting the World Health Organization’s (WHO) definition to make the point, he said, “Health as defined by the WHO, refers to a ‘state of complete physical, mental and Social well-being and not mere absence of disease or infirmity”.
Mamman said achieving those standards for nurses would require policies that address physical safety, mental health, social welfare and financial protection.
He argued that a healthier nursing workforce would translate directly into healthier patients and stronger health systems.
Other participants called for coordinated action from government, employers and professional bodies to expand EAPs, establish staff health insurance schemes, and ensure implementation at the facility and state levels.
They also urged that investments in nurses’ welfare be treated as central, not peripheral, to national health policy.
