Fear every girl in choir, say Nedu

Popular on-air personality, Chinedu Ani aka Nedu has argued every girl who’s a member of the choir should be ‘dreaded’.

He implied they were not the good and godly girls they seem to look like in a chat on Naija FM’s ‘Across the Bridge’.

He recounted how a friend dissuaded him from following through with his plans to engage a sister in the choir who he thought was a virgin but was reportedly engaging in coitus in church during all-night rehearsals.

Expressing himself in Pidgin English, Nedu said: “I say I been wan engage the girl. E say why? Say him just gimme make I chop naw.

Army intercepts 16,000 litres of adulterated diesel in Rivers

The Nigeria Army has intercepted a truck transporting about 16,000 litres of adulterated diesel for sale to unsuspecting users in Port Harcourt and environs.

The illegally refined diesel was stored inside 80 drums and worth over N14 million on street values.

Brig.-Gen. Eddie Effiong, Commander of 6 Division Garrison, Nigeria Army, Port Harcourt, spoke while presenting the seized truck and petroleum product to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

He said the truck was arrested on Sunday along Okporowo Road in Ahoada East Local Government by army troops at a security checkpoint in the area.

“This arrest reveals another dimension of illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta, devised by oil thieves to deceive unsuspecting security personnel on routine duty.

“Normally, illegally refined products are conveyed in tanker trucks but this seizure shows that they are now transporting illicit products via container trucks meant for goods.

“Ordinarily, if this adulterated diesel was in a tanker truck, it would have been easily detected. This shows the extent to which people can go to commit crime.

He said the fake diesel was packaged in such a manner that would easily deceive personnel on security checkpoints to think the truck was conveying goods or frozen foods.

“But our troops acting on credible information laid an ambush for the truck, and on opening it; they found 80 carefully arranged drums laden with illegally refined diesel.

“We want them (oil thieves) to understand that as they are devising new methods that we equally devise our own means to catch them.

“Henceforth, if drivers of trucks are stopped on the road for searching, they shouldn’t get angry, because everything now can be used to convey illegally refined petroleum products,” he added.

Effiong, who is also the Commander of Sector 3, Operation Delta Safe Military Joint Task Force said no arrest was made at the scene of the seizure.

According to him, the occupants of the truck abandoned their vehicle and escaped into the nearby bush on sighting the army checkpoint up ahead of them.

The hoodlums, who came in their numbers, shooting sporadically and fighting their way into the Palace at Amaifeke Ancient Kingdom Orlu, received stiff resistance from Police operatives and local vigilantes who engaged them in a protracted gun duel, forcing them to flee to the adjourning bushes with various degrees of gunshot injuries.

But IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful denied involvement in insecurity ravaging the Southeast.

He said: “IPOB maintains that the insecurity ravaging the Southeast Region is a Nigeria State sponsored blackmail against Ndigbo, particularly against IPOB’s peaceful movement for Biafra referendum. We have constantly condemned and disassociated ourselves from the unknown gunmen and insist that Nigeria Security Agencies know those behind the masked unknown gunmen.

“These unknown gunmen were those who led the prison break at Owerri Correctional facility on April 5, 2021, for 3 hours without any resistance from the government’s security operatives. They also lead covert operations at Suleja Abuja Prison on July 5, 2020, without security resistance. If these men were not government agents, how could they have done these? How can a non-state actor carry out jailbreaks for hours without security resistance?”

  • Poultry farmers urge Tinubu to restore grain intervention

Poultry farmers urge Tinubu to restore grain intervention

The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) has called on President Bola Tinubu to restore grain intervention granted to the sector by the immediate past administration.

The National Publicity Secretary of the association, Mr Godwin Egbebe, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.

Egbede lamented the sudden withdrawal of the grain intervention by the new government without notice or reason given to the farmers.

“The withdrawal of the intervention at this time is doing us no good with the current economic situation in the country.

“A tonne of maize in the open markets goes for as high as N350,000 as against N250,000 we used to pay for it.

“Even at the price of N250,000, it was hard for poultry farmers to break even.

“If we increase the price of our produce, especially eggs, we will not have buyers.

“We want the government to intervene and release the 40 metric tons of maize to boost the sector’s productivity and give us more time to pay up,’’ he said.

Egbede recalled that during the immediate past administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, grains were given to the poultry sector at a price between N220,000 to N230,000 per metric ton.

He said the commodity board and the Central Bank of Nigeria gave them the grains as interventions.

“We were given 20,000 metric tons to help us stabilise the price of maize in the market and a window of 48 hours to pay for the commodities.

“Because the time limit given to us was not enough for farmers to raise that kind of money, we have also been given some extension to pay the funds.

“However news reaching us now is that the grain intervention has been cancelled,’’ he said.

Egbede said that the cost of raw materials for feeds had taken its toll on the sector and if nothing was done urgently, more poultry farms would close up.

He, therefore, appealed to the federal government to intervene on this issue promptly.
