I have delivered across all sectors—Adeleke boasts

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Sunday affirmed that his administration in three years has delivered good governance in all sectors of the state.

This is just as he challenged his critics to judge him by his records as a governor in the last three years, saying, “leadership is not and should not be a master–servant relationship.”

A statement by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, disclosed that the governor made it known at Iwude Ijesha carnival at Ilesa on Sunday, who fired back at critics who questioned his style of governance asserted that governance is not about stern-looking leaders parading corridors of power.

He explained, “Governance is about making a direct positive impact on the lives of the people. Your delivery as a governor is the best judge of your performance and capacity to lead. Judge me on my records, outputs, and agenda as a governor. That is the best globally accepted parameters to measure leadership.

“My people, I have delivered across sectors in the last three years. I positively touched all sectors and federal constituencies. My records affirm and validate my capacity and competence to continue to lead our dear state.”

He added that the governor who felicitated with the Ijesa people on the occasion of the Iwude day said his team conducted due diligence on the basic developmental challenges facing Ijeshaland in 2022.

According to him, “When we came on board in late 2022, Ijesaland was being plundered without accountability. There was an inglorious rape of the land actively aided by the government of the time. Environmental degradation caused by illegal mining was so pervasive that the underground water across Ijesaland was declared polluted. Illegal mining was not just a challenge; the revenue flow from the mining sector was then to private pockets rather than the state treasury.

“Our administration launched a mining sector reform. Today, Osun’s shareholding within the Segilola Gold Project is secured. Concerted war is being waged on illegal mining. Environmental cleaning up is now a continuous exercise. We launched a river clean-up project manned by tested professionals.”

Adeleke continued, “The Ilesa Water project, which was a center of corruption under the previous government, was reviewed, and anti-corruption measures yielded positive results. A project meant to provide water supply to the Ijesa people was turned into a channel of self-enrichment by some people from this land. Today, the contract for the water project has been cleaned up, and the project is set to continue after processing by the Islamic Development Bank.

“Beyond several infrastructure projects already executed across this great land, the late Adimula made two requests from me when I was campaigning for the governorship. By the grace of God, we have delivered and even exceeded the demands of our late father.”

He highlighted several interventions his government delivered for the Ijesa, including the University of Ilesa, roads, among others.

“I call on you all to renew your dedication to our joint mission of taking our dear state to a new, greater height. We must not allow political and developmental setbacks to afflict us again, the governor ended.

    • …says institutional sabotage left Presidency and nation vulnerable
    • …ex-NSA recounts how Abba Kyari, others blocked funding, access to security architecture
    • …biography details breakdown of protocol, National Security Council processes

Fresh details have emerged on how the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) was allegedly sidelined, underfunded, and stripped of institutional authority during the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, with grave implications for national security and presidential safety.

The revelations are contained in From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, a new biography written by Charles Omole, which documents first-hand accounts by former National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno.

According to Monguno’s account, a powerful inner circle within the Buhari presidency, described as a “cabal” and represented chiefly by the late former Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, and a few others with unfettered access to the President, routinely undermined protocol, disrupted command structures, and weakened the country’s security architecture.

One of the most troubling episodes detailed in the book involved the Presidential Air Fleet, which constitutionally reports to the NSA.

Monguno recalled that the fleet’s commander raised concerns over a fuel supplier that was under investigation, warning that continued engagement posed unacceptable risks.

Acting on standard security doctrine, Monguno forwarded the recommendation to the President, who approved a change of supplier.

However, the decision triggered outrage from Kyari, who reportedly confronted the NSA for acting without deference to “other interests.”

What should have remained a routine risk-mitigation measure quickly became a source of hostility, signalling, according to Monguno, that even core security decisions were subject to informal power brokers.

The rift widened when Mamman Daura reportedly intervened, describing the action as an “injustice” to the fuel supplier.

From that point, Monguno said, his office became persona non grata within the inner circle.

The book revealed that the consequences were severe: despite presidential approvals, funds meant for national security operations were allegedly withheld, with the Minister of Finance drawn into the dispute.

The biography describes this sustained deprivation of funds as a deliberate emasculation of the NSA’s office.

Critical subscriptions lapsed, technical systems linked to foreign partners went offline, and intelligence infrastructure around the Presidential Villa deteriorated.

Monguno said he wrote more than 30 reminders and made repeated personal appeals, only for approvals to stall after being routed through the Chief of Staff’s office.

Monguno revealed that institutional damage extended beyond finances, noting that the Special Services Office, the statutory secretariat of the intelligence community, was excluded from about 20 National Security Council meetings.

In its place, ad hoc note-taking by staffers from the Chief of Staff’s office replaced formal record-keeping, eroding institutional memory and accountability.

The book further revealed that it took the appointment of Boss Mustapha as Secretary to the Government of the Federation for the NSA to draw a firm line, refusing to proceed with a council meeting until his secretariat was admitted.

Although Kyari eventually relented, Monguno said the episode underscored how order and protocol had broken down at the highest levels.

The former NSA also disclosed that for 20 months, his office operated without a permanent secretary, despite presidential approval for an appointment.

A counter-note from a “gatekeeper,” he said, effectively nullified the directive, an example of how repeated acts of petty sabotage could cripple a system without overt conspiracy.

The consequences of these structural failures came into sharp focus after the attack on Kuje Correctional Facility.

Amid public accusations of intelligence failure, Monguno said he returned from an official trip to find a National Security Council meeting already convened.

He presented extensive documentation of prior warnings and threat assessments to the President.

At the end of the briefing, Buhari reportedly told him: “NSA, you’ve absolved yourself,” a moment Monguno interpreted as quiet vindication, and a stark reminder of how easily individuals were scapegoated for systemic dysfunction.

The book further recounts how security funding for elections, once routinely coordinated by the NSA’s office, was later struck out at the last minute, apparently due to factional suspicions.

Even misunderstandings within the First Family, Monguno said, were fuelled by the false assumption that the NSA was hoarding funds, when in reality the office was financially crippled.

In Omole’s account, both Buhari and the Nigerian state emerge as casualties of an informal power structure that prioritised access and influence over institutions and protocol, a dynamic that, according to Monguno, endangered not only governance but the life of the President himself.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to defeat banditry and terrorism, assuring Nigerians that the country would overcome its security challenges as he received organisers of the Eyo Festival at his Lagos residence.

Speaking briefly during the visit, the President prayed for Lagos and the nation and charged participants in the cultural procession, which commenced the same day, to celebrate peacefully, warning against alcohol consumption and any conduct capable of endangering lives.

“I am happy for this great cultural remembrance, a rekindling of our culture. It is a great honour to come back home to meet our people, ready, happy, healthy, for the celebration of Eyo Carnival in peace, harmony, love, brotherhood, and sisterhood,” Tinubu said.

He urged the revellers to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the festivities.

“You should stay in peace, rejoice in peace, dance in peace, no alcohol, no danger to anybody’s life. Everybody is a member of this great family,” the President admonished.

Tinubu noted that the progress being witnessed in Lagos and across the country was worth celebrating, expressing confidence in a peaceful festive season.

“Eko is making progress. Nigeria is making progress… God will bless Lagos, bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And I assure you, we will defeat banditry and terrorism,” he added.

The visiting delegation was led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who later spoke to journalists, describing the festival as a historic moment for the state and a celebration steeped in remembrance.

Sanwo-Olu said this year’s Eyo Festival, the first in eight years, was held in honour of four prominent Lagosians: the late Military Administrator of Lagos State, Mobolaji Johnson; former civilian governors Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande and Sir Michael Otedola; and Alhaja Habibat Mogaji, the President’s mother.

The governor explained that the visit to the President marked the formal ushering in of the Adimu, the most prominent of the Eyo masquerades, and the commencement of activities for a week-long celebration culminating on December 27.

Forum unveils leadership, mentorship drive to sustain Renewed Hope Agenda

A youth-led organisation, Tinubu Young Generation Forum (TYGF), has launched a leadership and mentorship initiative aimed at grooming young Nigerians for future leadership roles.

The national president of the Forum, Hon. Prince Kevin, noted while delivering his address during a National Executive Committee meeting (NEC) held in Abuja on Saturday, that the initiative is part of efforts to sustain  Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda through structured capacity building, skills development, and professional training.

The initiative focuses on identifying and training ambitious young people with leadership potential, providing mentorship, emotional intelligence development, and governance-oriented skills to prepare them for responsible leadership.

The agenda for the meeting, marked as “Youth stakeholders engagement and dialogue; Renewed Hope Agenda: Imperative of Nigerian youths’ dreams of yesterday, today and the future,” highlighted the critical roles of Nigerian youths as future leaders.

Kevin, who is also the National President of the Forum, said the TYGF was established to champion youth capacity building, mentorship, and empowerment through skills development, workshops, and professional training.

He said the forum remained committed to sustaining the Renewed Hope Agenda by grooming young Nigerians with leadership potential and preparing them for responsible leadership roles in society.

According to him, the initiative draws inspiration from President Tinubu’s long-standing mentorship culture, which dates back to his time as Governor of Lagos State, Senator, and now President.

“Mr President has consistently supported and mentored aspiring leaders across generations.

This forum seeks to institutionalise that mentorship and make it accessible to young people who aspire to serve and lead competently,” he said.

He stressed the need to invest in youth development, noting that many leadership challenges in the country stemmed from a lack of proper mentorship and leadership training at an early stage.

Kevin said the forum, working with seasoned mentors and professionals, would focus on equipping young people with governance-oriented skills, emotional intelligence, and leadership values required for national development.

“We will be starting next year, beginning from the grassroots, and will be carrying out this project across 36 states of the Federation.

“We are still engaging the youths in collaboration with the government, we have done engagement programmes for young people, we are still mentoring young people on skill development, we have been supporting youths on skill development training and empowerment.

“A lot of planning and stakeholder engagement is currently ongoing ahead of our next year’s program. We will be empowering them with work tools like sewing machines, clippers, and cameras, depending on what they plan to do. We have supported the youths in our own little way from our own pockets, which is our own way of supporting the government to empower youths under the Renewed Hope Agenda since 2023.

He added that engaging and nurturing young Nigerians with leadership potential remained critical to securing a sustainable future for the country.

FG restores traffic flow on Abuja-Lokoja expressway after truck drivers’ standoff

Normal traffic flow has been restored on the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway after a weekend disruption caused by a standoff between truck drivers and military personnel, the Federal Government has said.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the restoration following hours of gridlock that left thousands of road users stranded along the corridor during the festive travel period.

The disruption followed an incident in which a truck windscreen was reportedly smashed, prompting truck drivers to block a section of the highway in protest.

The action led to severe traffic congestion, with vehicles unable to move freely towards Lokoja and other destinations, compounding travel hardship for commuters.

In a statement on Sunday by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Ministry of Works, Mohammed Ahmed, the Minister directed the immediate opening of completed sections of the expressway and approved the deployment of all necessary measures to restore traffic and ease the situation.

The statement said the directive was implemented without delay, leading to the reopening of the affected stretch and gradual decongestion of the road.

The Federal Controller of Works in Kogi State, Patiko Isah, confirmed that coordinated intervention by relevant agencies brought the situation under control in the early hours of Sunday.

“The Field Headquarters, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps and other security agencies, restored the free flow of traffic at about 2:00 a.m. today,” he was quoted as saying.

The Ministry said the action helped to clear the backlog of vehicles and restore normal movement along the expressway.

Speaking on the development, Umahi appealed to motorists to exercise patience and caution, especially as traffic volumes increase during the holiday season.

He urged road users to remain orderly and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable incidents, noting that cooperation between motorists and security agencies was critical to maintaining smooth movement on major highways.

The Minister reassured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to providing safe, efficient, and reliable road transportation infrastructure across the country.

He also conveyed goodwill messages to Nigerians, wishing them a peaceful, safe, and joyous festive celebration as travel activities peak nationwide.

Yuletide: FCCPC warns transport operators against arbitrary fare hikes

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has cautioned inter-city road transport operators against imposing arbitrary and unjustified fare increases during the ongoing yuletide travel season, following a surge in consumer complaints nationwide.

In a statement signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, the Commission acknowledged that seasonal demand, operational pressures, and other legitimate cost factors may influence transport pricing.

However, it stressed that consumers are entitled to clear, accurate, and timely information on fares before travel, adding that any fare adjustment must be transparently communicated and fairly applied.

The FCCPC noted that the complaints come amid reports of reductions in the pump price of premium motor spirit in some parts of the country. While fuel cost is only one of several factors affecting transport fares, the Commission said unexplained or undisclosed increases raise serious consumer protection concerns.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC, Mr Tunji Bello, said the Commission is closely monitoring market conduct throughout the festive period and has intensified engagements with transport unions, park managers, and operators across the country.

According to Bello, the engagements are preventive, aimed at promoting responsible pricing, voluntary compliance, and orderly market behaviour.

He clarified that fare increases are not unlawful in themselves, but warned that practices which exploit consumers or take unfair advantage of heightened seasonal demand could attract regulatory action under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018.

Bello further stated that conduct such as inadequate fare disclosure, coercive practices, or coordinated pricing arrangements among operators to the detriment of consumers would be subjected to strict scrutiny, noting that established violations would attract stiff penalties.

The Commission advised travellers to confirm fares before embarking on trips, retain proof of payment, and report suspected unfair practices through its complaints portal at complaints.fccpc.gov.ng or via the hotlines 0805 600 3030 and 0805 600 2020.

Oyebamiji, reacting to a video circulating on social media, berated the purveyors of the claim, describing them as failed and rejected politicians.

The APC gubernatorial candidate, through his campaign movement spokesperson, Adebayo Adedeji, in a statement on Sunday, said, “We use this medium to debunk a video in circulation, which falsely depicts that Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) endorses a particular candidate for the 2026 election.

Therefore, we urge the general public, particularly the esteemed and teeming supporters of AMBO and the All Progressives Congress (APC), to note that the video was concocted to mislead the people and confuse them about their political choice ahead of the 2026 election.
