Tinubu celebrates Fayose at 65, hails his courage, political resilience

    • You’re valuable brother and friend, Wike tell ex-gov

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu  and Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike have congratulated former Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, on his 65th birthday, describing him as a courageous political figure whose resilience and consistency have left a distinct mark on Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

In a goodwill message personally signed by him and released yesterday, President Tinubu said it gave him “great pleasure to celebrate Osoko himself” on the milestone anniversary.

The President traced Fayose’s rise to national prominence to 2003, when he emerged as the second elected governor of Ekiti State at a time Tinubu was serving his second term as governor of Lagos.

He noted that despite the turbulence that marked the end of Fayose’s first tenure, including what he described as “the abuse of presidential powers,” the former governor showed unusual courage and calm in the face of adversity.

“In one of the great political comebacks of our time,” Tinubu said, Fayose returned to office in 2014 and made history as the first politician in Nigeria to defeat two incumbents in separate governorship contests.

Describing him as a man firmly rooted among his people, the President said Fayose’s popular cognomen, Ore Mekunnu (friend of the poor), speaks to his identity and political style.

“He is a colourful politician who has mastered the art of retail politics as a means of establishing a connection with the people,” he noted.

Tinubu said the former governor’s achievements in office, ranging from road infrastructure to improved access to education and healthcare, remain visible across Ekiti, adding that notable projects such as the State High Court Complex and the new governor’s office stand as testament to his record.

“As his elder brother, I value his support for me and my administration,” the President said, offering prayers for Fayose’s health and continued service to God and humanity.

    “Happy birthday, Osokomole!” Tinubu added

Also felicitating Fayose, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom described him as “a valuable friend and brother, who will never pretend about where he stands on issues.”

In his letter of congratulation to the former governor, Wike said Fayose remained a reference point in politics and governance in Nigeria.

According to a statement issued yesterday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the FCT Minister wrote; “From the deepest part of my heart, I congratulate you on the occasion of your 65th Birthday, coming up on November 15th, 2025.

“That you have attained this age is no doubt a confirmation of the grace the Almighty God has bestowed on you, and a challenge for more service to our country, Nigeria.

“No doubt, at 65, you have remained a reference point in politics and governance in Nigeria.

“You are such a valuable friend and brother, who will never pretend about where he stands on issues.

“Ayodele my younger brother, may you reach the age of your elder brother in good health, and may God continue to make your days on earth fruitful, with immeasurable blessings.

“To a dependable ally, whose yes is yes, and no is no, happy Birthday.”

    JOHESU declare indefinite nationwide strike

    • Says govt has taken workers’ patriotism for granted

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA) have declared an indefinite nationwide strike, starting from yesterday night, accusing the Federal Government of “long delay, inaction and outright disregard” for a twelve-year demand to adjust the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

The decision was announced yesterday at the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) National Secretariat in Abuja, following what the union described as a unanimous resolution of its Expanded National Executive Council.

JOHESU said that all its affiliate unions: MHWUN, Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes, and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions in Nigeria (NASU), would withdraw services from all Federal Health Institutions beginning midnight of yesterday.

It directed workers in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to “immediately serve their governments 15-day notice in line with relevant provisions of the labour laws,” and assured state councils of full national support.

In a statement at the end of the meeting signed by National Chairman of JOHESU, Comrade Kabiru Minjibri, the unions said it was necessary to “intimate our members in health institutions across the country and members of the public about the declaration of Trade Dispute in the Health Sector” and to highlight outstanding issues between the Federal Government and the unions.

The union said several correspondences had been sent to relevant ministries, departments and agencies since the suspension of its last strike on June 5, 2023, which took what it called “the personal intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

JOHESU stated that despite signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government on October 29, 2024, after a seven-day warning strike, “there has been no positive response from the Federal Government on some of these issues despite assurances during subsequent meetings with relevant MDAs.”

The union described the current situation as “worrisome and unacceptable,” stressing that government inaction had left them with no alternative.

The union emphasised that the core of the dispute remains the non-implementation of the High-Level Body (HLB) Committee report on the adjusted CONHESS, which was submitted to the Presidential Committee on Salaries and Wages in 2022.

According to JOHESU, this demand has remained unresolved since January 2, 2014, when the government implemented a parallel adjustment for the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), “in violation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement that established the two salary structures in the health sector in 2009.”

The statement lamented that “nothing has been done by successive administrations to redress this infraction,” adding that even after President Tinubu received a two-man JOHESU delegation in June 2023 and offered assurances, the demand was still ignored.

The unions said MDAs had repeatedly blamed the delay on the non-reconstitution of the Presidential Committee on Salaries, but asserted that “since the reconstitution of the PCS the matter was not given priority attention until probably the last 48 hours when the Federal Government appears to have made practical moves to ameliorate the unpalatable delays which has pervaded for almost twelve years now.”

While expressing concern for ordinary Nigerians who will be affected, JOHESU said:“This situation is beyond our immediate control because of government inaction.”

The unions insisted that they had consistently prioritised social dialogue and had shown “maturity, selflessness and patriotism even in the face of extreme provocations and government’s long delay,” but now believe that “our maturity and patriotism have been taken for granted.”

Alia commends Tinubu, Naval Chief for renewed security push in Benue

    • By Angula Bishop Reuben

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has commended the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abass, for his renewed commitment to deepening security collaboration with the state.

The governor made the remarks during a visit to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja, according to a statement shared on his official social media platforms.

Governor Alia said he met the Naval Chief to express appreciation for his recent visit to Benue State and for the Navy’s increasing support amid ongoing internal security challenges across the Middle Belt.

He also congratulated Vice Admiral Abass on his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising what he described as the President’s “exemplary leadership” in advancing national security.

The Governor recalled that the CNS had visited Makurdi on 11th November, 2025 as part of a nationwide operational tour, marking his first official stop since assuming office. Makurdi was selected due to the strategic importance of the newly established Nigerian Navy Special Operations Command (NNSOC), which is headquartered in Benue.

During the visit, the naval chief inspected key military facilities, including the Navy Barracks at Kanshio, the Navy Medical Centre, and the temporary site of the Navy Provost and Regulating School in Makurdi.

Governor Alia also noted that the establishment of the NNSOC stemmed from a request he made in 2024 during an official visit to the former Chief of Naval Staff, where he sought the approval for a Type A Nigerian Navy Operational Base in the state.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with national security institutions to ensure “sustained peace, stability, and the protection of all our people.”

Governor Alia also expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support in the fight against terrorism and other security threats in Benue State, noting that the President’s commitment has remained instrumental in restoring peace and stability across the state.

Falana faults moves to have Ekweremadu complete prison sentence in Nigeria

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has faulted the Federal Government’s plan to have former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, serve the remainder of his prison sentence in Nigeria.

Ekweremadu is presently serving a prison sentence in the UK over a case of organ harvesting.

He questioned the rationale behind the decision, wondering why the government failed to intervene in the other 232 Nigerians serving in British prisons.

Fanala spoke on Thursday in Abuja at the opening of Legal Year of Faculty of Law, University of Abuja. The event was organised by the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), UNIABUJA Chapter.

Promising to take up the issue, the legal practitioner also questioned the prisoner exchange programme, arguing that there is no British citizen currently serving in Nigerian jail.

Speaking on the face-off between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike (FCT) and naval officer, A. M. Yerima, on a property belonging to an ex-Chief of Naval Staff, the learned silk faulted both parties for taking the laws into their hands.

While saying that the Minister was lucky not to have been shot during his confrontation with the soldier, the senior lawyer, however, stressed that both parties erred in law.

He stated that although Wike was carrying out his statutory responsibilities as enshrined in Section 11 of the Land Use Act, his failure to exercise emotional intelligence and his use of derogatory language toward the military officer gave him out.

He cited a case in Ghana where a minister had to apologize for making uncomplimentary remarks about a taxi driver, emphasizing the importance of dignity and respect.

“On no ground should a Minister force himself and abuse the military officer. No Minister has the power to call any Nigerian a fool. Mr President should compel the Minister to apologise. He was lucky he was not shot.

“The military officer contravened the law by preventing the Minister from doing his legal duty. The officer engaged in illegal duty to guide the land of a private person. So when he said he was acting on superior orders, those orders are illegal. But the Minister went off track. Even the President can’t call any Nigerian a fool”, Falana said.

He said Nigerians are impressed that even in the heat of provocation, the officer did not lose his patience.

Speaking on the theme, ‘Litigation as a bloodline of justice: Building the next generation of advocate’, he urged the law students to leverage technology, expressing satisfaction that courts across West Africa are increasingly adopting virtual hearings and electronic filing of court processes.

He also tasked them to take more than a passing interest in the affairs of the country.

The event also witnessed the conferment of Senior Advocate of the Masses on the renowned human rights lawyer, which he dedicated to indigent Nigerians.

Also speaking, the Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Abuja, Prof. Uwakwe Abugu, commended the organisers for creating a platform that bridges the gap between legal theory and practice.

Prof. Abugu noted that the forum provides an opportunity for aspiring lawyers to interact with seasoned practitioners, thereby enhancing their understanding of the dynamics of legal advocacy in contemporary society.

He urged the students to imbibe discipline, integrity, and continuous learning, stressing that the future of the legal profession depends on their commitment to upholding justice and ethical standards, a sentiment shared by the Senior Special Assistant to the President for National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), Ibrahim Olanrewaju.

DSS recaptures suspected mastermind of Kogi church attack

The Department of State Services (DSS) has recaptured a top commander of the Ansari terrorist group, Abdulazeez Obadaki, believed to have masterminded the August 7, 2012 mass shooting of Christian worshippers at a Deeper Life Bible Church, near Okene in Kogi State.

At least 19 worshippers, including the pastor were killed, with several others sustaining varying degrees of injuries after three men armed with AK-47 rifles walked into the church and opened fire on the worshippers.

Security sources said Obadaki, who, after the church mass shooting, also masterminded another attack on five commercial banks in Uromi, Edo State, was arrested but escaped during the July 2022 jailbreak at Kuje Custodial Centre.

Security sources disclosed that the suspected terrorist  leader confessed to orchestrating the Kuje Custodial centre jailbreak following his transfer from Kabba Custodial Centre in June 2022.

According to the sources, after over three years of being on the run, DSS operatives in a well-oiled intelligence operation recaptured Obadaki aka Bomboy, yesterday morning.

This arrest comes barely two months after the secret police arraigned five suspects linked to the 2022  Catholic Church attack in Owo, Ondo State.

During the February 2022 daylight bank robberies in Uromi, Edo State, which instilled widespread fear across the region, several policemen and bank customers were killed while hundreds of millions of Naira was reportedly carted away.

  • Why Yerima should apologise to Wike – NCDI

Why Yerima should apologise to Wike – NCDI

The National Coalition for Democratic Integrity (NCDI) has called for a prompt and impartial investigation into the conduct of Lt. A. M. Yerima toward the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike during the week and explained why  Yerima should  tender an unreserved apology to Wike.

In a statement signed by the President, Chief Kiki Kiki, the NCDI noted that the conduct of Lt. Yerima in obstructing the Honourable Minister and officials of the Federal Capital Territory Authority from performing their official duties, under the guise of ‘obeying superior orders,’ was not only a direct affront to the principles of civilian oversight and constitutional order on which our democracy relies but also undermines the fundamental values of discipline and respect that define the military profession.

“It is rather unfortunate that while patriotic and dedicated officers of the Nigerian armed forces are doing their best to combat insurgency, violent crimes, oil bunkering, and safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters, Officer Yerima is in Abuja “obeying orders” and protecting the “territories” of his master.” Such conduct,  if left unchecked, risks sending the wrong signal to the public and to the rank and file within the security services—that insubordination and contempt for civil authority can be tolerated. That would set a dangerous precedent.

“We must be unequivocal in condemning the deplorable and utterly unacceptable conduct of Officer Yerima against the FCT Minister. No individual in uniform or in public office is above the law or beyond accountability. The dignity of civilian leadership must be respected, not as a matter of ego, but as a safeguard for the order and stability of our democracy.”

Continuing, it said: ‘’It should be noted that the military, as an institution of honour, service, and loyalty, derives its authority from the Constitution and exists to serve—not to challenge or undermine—civil leadership. No act of insubordination or discourtesy towards a civilian authority can ever be justified or tolerated.

“We hold the military in the highest regard as a noble and respected national institution that is serving our nation with distinction. It is proper to underscore that such conduct from an officer in uniform represents a serious breach of discipline and professionalism.”

Read Also: Wike to Fayose @65: you are a valuable brother and friend

The coalition  therefore urged the leadership of the armed forces, particularly the high command of the Nigerian Navy, to take this incident seriously, investigate it thoroughly, and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are applied in accordance with established procedures. “Equally important is the need to reinforce continuous education and orientation on civil–military relations, professionalism, and the constitutional boundaries that define them.

“Meanwhile, we commend elites and leaders across the country who have chosen restraint and due process in dealing with this matter. However, it is a shame that certain political jobbers and their sycophantic followers have, as usual, turned the ugly incident into another opportunity to display their biased attitudes. Celebrating the reprehensible behaviour of the junior Naval officer merely because they dislike Nyesom Wike or hold different political views from him is equally juvenile and utterly contemptible.

“We also wish to express deep concern over the quite unfortunate comments made by some retired generals and the purported remarks by the Ministers of Defence regarding the incident.”

The statement added: “However, a much more troubling aspect of the young Naval officer’s conduct is that it raises a significant question. We wonder whether, if Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike were someone from the northern region, Officer Yerima would have behaved in the same way.

“It may be necessary to recall that when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Chief Nyesom Wike as the FCT Minister in 2023, certain Northern elements—recognised promoters of parochialism and acrimony, based on unfounded predispositions—called for the removal of Chief Nyesom Wike, who is only the second person of Southern origin to be appointed substantive minister of the Federal Capital Territory since its establishment forty-seven years ago.

Ultimately, a nation that tolerates disdain for its civilian institutions risks weakening the very foundation of its democracy. Therefore, this issue must be addressed with the utmost seriousness and transparency.”

Accordingly, the coalition calls for: “a prompt and impartial investigation into the officer’s conduct; appropriate disciplinary measures consistent with military ethics, protocols, and professionalism; institutional reinforcement of civil–military etiquette to prevent a recurrence; a public apology by Lt. Yerima and those whose orders he was purportedly obeying to the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and the Federal Capital Administration.Anything other than the above would be quite unfortunate.

We remind all stakeholders that discipline without respect is tyranny, and authority without accountability leads to instability. Our democracy must never surrender to arrogance or abuse of power, whether in uniform or out of it.”

The Coalition said it is  firmly in  solidarity with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, as well as all public officials who uphold civility and respect in serving our nation.

“We urge the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to stay focused and not be distracted by the incident, but to remain committed and steadfast, working collaboratively with all sectors of government and security agencies to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people and residents of the Federal Capital Territory, in line with the mandate of Mr. President.”

  • Crisis rocks Ondo Assembly over Aiyedatiwa’s N531 billion budget request

Crisis rocks Ondo Assembly over Aiyedatiwa’s N531 billion budget request

    • Lawmakers split on passage as Speaker faces allegations, impeachment
    • House leader denies crisis
    • PDP, govt trade words over budget

The Ondo State House of Assembly is currently enmeshed in controversies following Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s submission of a N531 billion ‘Supplementary Budget’ to the parliamentarians for legislative approval.

The twenty-six lawmakers have been divided, with some rejecting Governor Aiyedatiwa’s proposal and questioning the rationale behind the massive additional request, made barely two months before the end of the fiscal year.

The supplementary budget, read on the Assembly floor by Clerk Barrister Benjamin Jayeola on November 4, 2025, seeks approval to fund ongoing capital projects and recurrent expenditures, including salaries, pensions, and newly initiated infrastructure projects across the state.

A copy of the budget document showed that the governor is requesting N531,767,261,000, with N254,448,081,000 earmarked for recurrent expenditure and N277,319,130,000 for capital projects for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025.

The Nation learnt that the request has sparked discontent among some of the aggrieved Assembly members, who accused the executive of poor budget performance and fiscal indiscipline in implementing the 2025 Appropriation Law.

The development also came as the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the state government bickered over the N531.7 billion supplementary budget sent to the Assembly for passage by the governor.

12 lawmakers pass vote of no confidence on Assembly Speaker

Deepening the crisis, 12  out of the 26 lawmakers have voted against the move to pass the supplementary budget and also passed a “Vote of No Confidence” on the Assembly Speaker,  Olamide Oladiji, for moving to pass the appropriation bill.

They are: Hon Jide Oguntodu (Akure South I), Hon Temitope Akomolafe (Ifedore), Hon Fatai Atere (Akoko North/ West I), Hon Toyin Japhet (Akoko North

East), Hon Raymond Daodu (Akoko South West I), Hon Samuel Ifabiyi (Odigbo I), Hon Babatunde Fasonu (Odigbo II),

Others are: Hon Oluwatosin Ogunlowo ( Idanre), Hon Afe Felix (Akoko North/ West II), Hon Nelson Akinsuroju (Ile Oluji/Oke-Igbo), Rt Hon Akinruntan

Abayomi (llaje I) and Hon Stephen Abitogun (Akure South II).

However, the 12 aggrieved lawmakers in a resolution issued on Friday invoked Section 92(4)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the legislature to remove a Speaker for acts deemed to undermine public trust or violate official responsibilities.

The aggrieved lawmakers alleged that the Speaker, Olajide, committed two major financial infractions, including the diversion of N50 million allocated for a public hearing and misappropriation of the Assembly’s monthly operational grants.

     House leadership denies crisis

But the Majority Leader of the House of Assembly, Hon. Oshati Olatunji, has dismissed the insinuation of any crisis in the parliament.

Olatunji also denied any knowledge of the impeachment move against the Speaker, Oladiji, noting that there was no topic of discussion at either the plenary sittings or any of the House parliamentary meetings.

He assured the people of the state of the House’s commitment to people-centred legislation that must ensure the general interest of our people.

The House leader maintained that “democracy would be regarded as healthy when we sometimes disagree to agree. However, the reason for the disagreement should always be reasonable.”

He thereafter promised that the House would use its conflict resolution machinery to resolve whatever may have caused this.

PDP slams budget requests, calls it reckless

Meanwhile, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned what it called Aiyedatiwa’s reckless attempt to force through a N531 billion supplementary budget barely two months to the end of the fiscal year.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Mr Wande Ajayi, the PDP said the new demand follows the governor’s earlier N698.6 billion ‘Budget of Recovery’ for 2025, which allocated 62 per cent to capital expenditure and 38 per cent to recurrent costs.

The party said, “Shockingly, over N254 billion is earmarked for recurrent spending in less than two months, covering salaries, overheads, and other running costs. A very staggering and reckless allocation that defies financial logic.

Govt fires back, says budget was only revised, not supplementary

In a swift response, the state government claimed that what was before the Assembly is not a supplementary budget but a revised and restructured version of the N698.6 billion 2025 Budget of Recovery, which had earlier been duly passed by the Assembly and signed into law by the Governor.

In a statement released on Friday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Allen Sowore said it was important to set the record straight for the sake of unsuspecting members of the public who might be misled by this “deliberate falsehood” of the PDP.

“For clarity, what is before the Ondo state House of Assembly is not a supplementary budget. It is a revised and restructured version of the ₦698.6 billion 2025 Budget of Recovery, which had earlier been duly passed by the Assembly and signed into law by the Governor.

“The review became necessary because some anticipated funds from development partners have yet to materialise, and the fiscal year is fast coming to an end. In line with prudent financial management, the government decided to recalibrate the budget to reflect a more realistic revenue profile and ensure a fairer allocation of state resources across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Sanwo-Olu launches electronic physical planning process system

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has launched the Electronic Physical Planning Process System (EPPPS) for the digital transformation of land administration, physical planning, and urban development across the State.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on  Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.

According to the statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu remains committed to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement, adding that it will keep investing in technology-driven solutions that make governance more inclusive, efficient, and responsive to the needs of our people.

He said the EPPS platform was a necessary response to Lagos’ rapid population and urban growth, noting that the old paper-based systems can no longer support the scale and speed of development in a 21st-century megacity.

Speaking at the official launch of the EPPPS held at Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday, Sanwo-Olu said EPPPS will digitalise planning applications, minimise human interference, reduce corruption, support environmental monitoring, and provide accurate data for infrastructure planning and safety regulation.

The Governor disclosed that with the new digital platform, planning officers would now have access to better tools, including over a thousand newly deployed computers and upgraded digital facilities.

He said the EPPPS fits perfectly with his administration’s THEMES+ Agenda, especially in Technology and Innovation, building a 21st-century economy, and improving governance and service delivery.

“The EPPPS is another bold step toward our Smart City vision—a Lagos where systems are digital, processes are seamless, and citizens can access government services easily. It shows that technology is not just the future; it is already shaping the present — and Lagos is leading the way for Nigeria and Africa.

“This system is designed to make planning processes faster, more transparent, and more accountable. It will help reduce delays, minimise human interference, and support efforts to curb corruption. It also provides accurate data for urban management, infrastructure planning, and environmental monitoring – ensuring every development meets our master plan and safety standards.

“The EPPPS is also in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in using technology to accelerate development. By digitising planning applications and approvals, it promotes transparency, efficiency, and citizen-centred service delivery.

“It simplifies processes for developers and entrepreneurs, speeds up project delivery, ensures sustainable and orderly urban development, and provides accurate data for informed decision-making. Lagos is showing how state-level innovation can support national goals of inclusive growth, efficient governance, and improved quality of life,” he said.

The governor also urged all stakeholders—developers, professionals, and the public—to embrace the innovation and make full use of it to build a Lagos where order, innovation, and sustainability guide every development.

Speaking earlier, the Special Adviser on e-GIS and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, described the launch as the fulfilment of a visionary journey.

He said with EPPPS, the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development will no longer be confronted with the issues of backlogs or people waiting for long hours to see an officer within

Babatunde said the Electronic Physical Planning Process System initiative would add value to land administration and management in Lagos State.

He said: “This is the future of Lagos. This is where we want to be. Apart from the fact that it blocks loopholes, the government revenues that have been missing on a daily basis simply because of human intervention, we are trying to block it. It also reduces your processing time.

“It will also curb corruption from the side of those that are working inside of the government and those working from outside. The systems are incorruptible because they give you real-time, real-life information that cannot easily be manipulated.”

Raymond Tan and Steven Chan, the Singaporean partners and Board members of LagosNet, who worked with Lagos throughout the development process, delivered testimonials on the long-standing collaboration.

Tan noted that Singapore implemented a similar planning and digital design system in 2001, saving the government billions through efficiency and streamlined processes.

He reassured planning officers that EPPPS will not threaten their jobs; instead, it will enhance professionalism, improve decision-making, and support technology-driven workflows. He therefore encouraged industry professionals to embrace the system’s ease of submission, speed of feedback, and digital design compatibility.

Chan expressed confidence that EPPPS will deliver faster approvals, strengthen accountability, and support Lagos’ digital transformation goals.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Innovacore Technologies PTE and member of LagosNet, Mr Adebola Adeyinka, described the project as one that required courage, innovation, and long-term resilience.

He noted that although the project faced scepticism at the early stages, it has proved not to be a “white elephant” but a credible platform built to elevate Lagos to higher economic and governance standards.

SWDC MD: How Nigeria can transform through business, policy collaboration

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of South West Development Commission (SWDC), Dr Charles Akinola, has called for deliberate collaboration between business thinkers and policy shapers to foster Nigeria’s transformation.

Akinola made the call in his keynote address at the maiden annual lecture of the Alumni Association of University of Ibadan School of Business. The lecture was themed, ‘The Power of Collaboration: Alumni as a Catalyst for Business Growth and Societal Transformation, and Building Legacies.’

Other speakers include the immediate past Managing Director of First Bank PLC Dr Adesola Adeduntan; Dr Adebola Akindele and Mr Godwin Odah.

Akinola, who harped on the need for a deliberate collaboration between business leaders and policy makers, said “Business provides energy, innovation, and risk appetite; policy provides stability, scale, and systems.

“Imagine a partnership where alumni of business schools and alumni of policy schools work hand-in-hand, one designing sustainable business models, the other shaping regulatory frameworks that allow those models to flourish.

“That synergy is how Singapore built its competitiveness, how Rwanda re-imagined governance, and how the Nordic nations transformed welfare into wealth.
