Flying Eagles striker Fago agrees Croatia transfer

Flying Eagles striker Salim Fago Lawal has reportedly agreed a transfer to Croatian club Istra 1961 to cool off interests from several other clubs across Europe.

A top source familiar with this transfer told SCORENigeria that Fago, 19, is now only waiting for his entry visa to begin a new adventure in Europe.

“There was an agreement in place with the Croatian club even before the World Cup and to maintain relationship, it was agreed that this agreement be respected despite other serious interests for the player,” the source explained.

He featured at this year’s invitational Via Reggio Tournament in Italy.

Mavlon FC striker Fago started all five Flying Eagles games at the U20 World Cup in Argentina and scored a goal.

He is a tenacious striker blessed with good movements and aerial power.

Istra 1961 are based in Pula and finished fifth in the Croatian top league this past season.

Osimhen listed among stars to quit Serie A

The summer transfer window has started and there are already some rumours about key Serie A players that might be forced to leave the Italian league.

Saudi clubs and top European sides are in fact targeting the stars of the Italian league, taking advantage of the economic situation of several teams that might be keen to sell their players in the summer to help the financial statements. Let’s go around the country and see who can actually leave Serie A soccer.

The biggest early news is AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali closing in on a move to join Newcastle. Beyond him, here’s the top five players that might leave Italy over the summer:

The best striker and best scorer of the 2022-23 Serie A season might not be playing Italian soccer next season. In fact, after scoring 25 goals in 31 games in the league, Victor Osimhen attracted the interest of multiple European clubs and might be part of a game of dominos with strikers that will likely take place this summer. Some clubs are still waiting to make their moves, including Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain, and it’s not impossible to imagine that one of those sides will try to sign him. Napoli’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis was very clear about the future of Osimhen when he unveiled Rudi Garcia as the new coach of the Serie A title holders: “I have said it multiple times that Osimhen has to stay. If a big offer arrives, we will see and evaluate”.

Basically, he’s expected to stay, but if the right bid arrives he might be sold in the summer. Napoli signed Osimhen in the summer 2020 for around €70 million, making him the most expensive signing in the history of the club.

Others are Marcelo Brozovic (Inter), Dusan Vlahovic (Juventus), Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio) and Rasmus Hojlund (Atalanta).

Akpoguma thrilled to extend Hoffenheim contract

Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma has said he is excited to extend his contract with Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim till June 30, 2026.

Akpoguma’s contract was due to run out June 2024.

“I love this club and there was no question in my mind that I’d like to continue to play football here in the future,” he said. “This is my club, TSG are extremely close to my heart.

“The management have always believed in me, even in times that have been difficult for me personally.

  • Dennis faces uncertain future at Nottingham

Dennis faces uncertain future at Nottingham

Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Dennis‘ stay at Nottingham Forest next season may be in doubt as the Nigerian and his teammate Remo Freuler face uncertain futures at Nottingham Forest this summer as the club look to build for their second Premier League season.

Both players had good moments last term but they found themselves out of the side at the end of the campaign as the Reds avoided relegation with a game to spare.

Now Forest are aiming to strengthen in the transfer market, meaning the pair could move on.

Speaking at Garibaldi Red podcast live show, former Forest striker Nigel Jemson said he felt Dennis does not fit into the style of play under Steve Cooper.

“He doesn’t fit,” he said. “Dennis, on his day he’s unplayable, but even then he doesn’t know what he’s doing. For me, the club is going to move on and he’ll be surplus to requirements.

Fellow panellist, BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher, believes Dennis has more to offer than he showed in his 19 appearances this season, only six of which were starts as he scored twice.

“All you say in his defence is he’s an attacking player in a team which didn’t score many goals,” he said. “It’s easy to play that position in a team which creates five or six good chances a game but Forest didn’t.

“It was difficult for him. Brennan Johnson had that searing pace on the counter attack which Dennis doesn’t, so I do have some sympathy for him. What bothered me with him is I think his talent is greater than his performance.

“I think there’s so much talent in there but how you get it out of him is something many managers have found difficult to do on a consistent basis.”

Freuler, 31, played 28 times after his move from Atalanta, but he was dropped for the last six games as Cooper settled on a midfield of Ryan Yates, Danilo and Orel Mangala.

Fletcher believes the Switzerland international is a good player, but like Dennis, he does not fit how Forest play.

“I don’t think he fitted Forest’s team last season in any way, shape or form,” he said. “I thought in possession he was too slow and his distribution was too negative but they seemed obsessed with getting him in the team.

Premier Records denies alleged infringement by Charley Boy

The management of Premier Records Limited has responded to the allegation of contractual breach leveled against it by Charles Oputa popularly known as Charley Boy.

It said it has not infringed on the rights of the singer and both parties have a mutual understanding.

In a statement, the Records’ management insisted that they do not have any issue with Charlie Boy as they have had a long-standing relationship spanning three decades.

The statement with the headline: We have not infringed on any right: We have a mutual understanding with our artiste reads:“Our attention has been drawn to media reports from some media houses about Mr. Charles Oputa’s (Charlie Boy) claim of a possible infringement on his works by Premier Records Limited.

“We want to categorically state that we do not have any issues with Charlie Boy and have had a long-standing relationship spanning three decades. We had a meeting with his manager, Ms. Doris last week Thursday being the 15th of June 2023 in our office. We had a cordial discussion and the different contracts were explained to her and royalty statement was given to her. The management of Premier Records had mentioned to his manager that REALITY album was a licensing deal and not owned by the company and that we would not take a dime from whatever has accrued over the years and the masters will be given back.

“The 1990 album copyright belongs to the company according to the contract signed in 1988 with Polydor (now Premier Records Ltd). The contract clearly states that the artiste has assigned all the rights to the company as contained in paragraph five and fifteen of the contract.

“We also informed his manager that we are willing to return the U-Turn album due to some circumstances surrounding the contract for the album.

“In all these, we have kept in touch and have fulfilled all the requests made by Charlie Boy.

“We have the highest respect for Charlie Boy and would not do anything as a company to undermine him. We never claim what is not ours and duly pay artistes their royalties when it gets to the threshold. This is our major integrity test that has been passed from one management to another.

“We assure the public that this issue will be addressed and resolved amicably as we see our artistes as not only artistes but family.”

  • APC group to Atiku, Obi: drop suits, join Tinubu to form government

APC group to Atiku, Obi: drop suits, join Tinubu to form government

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Tinubu/Shettima 2023 has appealed to the Presidential Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Mr Peter Obi and others to withdraw their cases from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal and join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to form a Government of National Unity.

National Coordinator of the group, Dr. Lilian Ene Ogbole, made the call on Thursday at a briefing in Abuja.

The group argued that if Atiku, Obi and other presidential candidates were indeed committed to serving the country, they should join hands with Tinubu who it said has engaged in pro-people policies since he assumed office on May 29.

Ogbole, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council, stressed the need for a government of national unity is in the interest of the nation and her people.

According to her: “President Bola Tinubu’s government has thus far proved beyond every reasonable doubt to be transformational with huge potential to reunite, revitalize, renew and reposition Nigeria for a breakthrough to an uninterrupted era of progress and prosperity, hence the need for all hands to be on deck.

“Even though we are aware that it is the fundamental right of all aggrieved candidates to seek redress in the court of law, in the national interest we wish to use this avenue to crave the indulgence of all aggrieved candidates who are seeking redress in the tribunal to withdraw their litigations against the president and join hands with him in the proposed national unity and all-inclusive government.

“We are saying this confidently because we can see from all indications that the Tinubu-led administration is ready to work assiduously to install peace, development and progress in Nigeria.

“We are certain that the priority of all candidates of other political parties is to do the same selflessly in the national interest. Since Tinubu is playing out their intentions, they should go a step further to synergize with him to achieve the same patriotic purpose in the national interest.

“For this is the only way to prove to the world that indeed, their struggles are not personal and selfish, but rather in national interest and quest to restore the dignity of man in our domain through initiation and implementation of people-friendly policies and programmes.

“The aforementioned we are sure that the present administration is doing excellently well already as evidenced in most of the nation-building steps he has embarked on such as the fuel subsidy removal, the education bill that was signed into law, the display of uncommon fairness and equity in the appointment of key principal office holders and of course, his monetary and economic policies only to mention but a few.

“This is certainly not the time for further distractions; it is time to move Nigeria forward in a positive direction. This is a call for a unity government in the national interest.

“Tinubu is a prayer answered. The PDP members have started to see the capacity of President Tinubu and Labour Party members too are now commending his capacity. I think we should cash on this golden moment to join hands with him and build a country we all be proud of.”
