    Former Senator of Bayelsa East Ben Murray-Bruce has declared the days of businessmen flocking to Aso Rock Villa for fraudulent business deals are over.

    In a tweet, Murray-Bruce said President Bola Tinubu is the first leader with a background in finance.

    He said the days of ‘419 businessmen’ going to the Presidential Villa to obtain import duty exemptions and other benefits were over.

    He encouraged businessmen to concentrate on ethical business practices.

    He tweeted: “President Bola Tinubu, @officialABAT, is the first President of Nigeria with a Financial background. Let me tell our 419 businessmen some hard truths. Your days of going to the villa at night to get import duty exemptions, tax waivers, fraudulent judgement claims and bogus business deals are over.

    “Focus on legitimate business deals. Tinubu will not pick a winner like past Presidents. This time you will have to earn your position in the Nigerian Economy.”

    BREAKING: Tinubu suspends EFCC chair Bawa

    President Bola Tinubu has suspended the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, indefinitely.

    This was contained in a statement by the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Willie Bassey.

    The statement said the President’s action followed allegations leveled against him. He has been directed to hand affairs of the Commission over to the Director of Operations.

    “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.

    “This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.

    “Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement reads.

    Bawa was one of the several guests at the Presidential Villa, Abuja where he held a meeting with President Tinubu.

    Senate presidency: ‘We are sure of Yari’s victory’

    A national socio-political group, Women For Yari Movement (W4YM) has said it was sure of victory for former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari as Senate President.

    Senators will today elect a new president.

    The group urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the election of principal officers for the 10th National Assembly was free and fair.

    In a statement by its Spokesperson, Safiya Mogho, the group hailed Tinubu for pledging not to interfere in the election of principal officers for the 10th Senate.

    The group said: “We in the W4YM seize on the significance of today – June 12, 2023 and Democracy Day – in the annals of Nigerian history to express our heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his nobility in living up to his long-held democratic principles as regards the 10th National Assembly leadership election. As the first election in this administration, this is a litmus test for the Tinubu Presidency from now till 2027.

    “The President has declared neutrality and a level-playing field in the 10th National Assembly election holding on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a nobleman. His words are his bonds. He will stick to them. Let no cabalists tell you otherwise.

    “It bears repeating that on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 the 10th National Assembly shall be inaugurated and the 109 Senators shall elect Distinguished Senator Abdulaziz Yari as President of the Senate in an open, free and fair election which the whole nation shall witness live on national and satellite television stations, radios and on online broadcast and streaming platforms.

    “It is the classical, true democracy which President Tinubu fought for through the June 12 Struggle and as Governor of Lagos State. President Tinubu will strengthen that democracy by his avowed non-interference in the election of the10th National Assembly this Tuesday.

    “The President has spoken! He is a Hero of Democracy. He would strengthen our democracy on the floor of the 10th National Assembly come Tuesday, June 13, 2023 by not favouring and imposing any candidates on the 10th National Assembly.

    “The emergence of Distinguished Senator Abdulaziz Yari as Senate President in the envisaged transparent, free and fair election shall be another bright feather added to the democratic cap of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Father of the Nation and Icon of Democracy in Nigeria – a reputation President Tinubu rightly and bravely earned in the crucibles of the June 12 Struggle.”

    Forum recommends Taraba APC chieftains for ministerial positions

    Some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, have been recommended to President Bola Tinubu for ministerial positions.

    The names put forward are David Kente, Ezekiel Afukunyo, General A.T Ibrahim, and Prof Dalhatu Sangari, all from Taraba South.

    The names were contained in an open letter to President Bola Tinubu and signed by the Chairman, Taraba APC Youth Forum, Jamilu Bawa, yesterday.

    Bawa explained that since 2015 when the APC came on board, the northern zone had enjoyed all three ministerial slots from the APC government.

    He added that the central zone had also enjoyed several other leadership positions such as chairmanship of the party and other federal appointments.

    He made reference to the late Sen Aisha Jummai Alhasan, who was minister of women affairs, Sale Mamman, and Muazu Sambo Jaji were all from the Northern part of the state, and were all made ministers.

    According to him, those recommended for appointments worked tirelessly for the APC even though the President did not show up for campaigns.

    He said: “Mr President, you are a firm believer of representative democracy and a rewarder of sacrifices.

    “In accordance with your famous quote, it is “Emi Lo Kan” for southern Taraba. In fairness for the role played by Southern Taraba stakeholders such as Chief David Sabo Kente, Chief Ezekiel Irimiya Afukunyo, General A.T Ibrahim, Prof Dalhatu Sangari, and a host of others we are appealing to Mr President to beam your touch light to the zone in search of competent men of honor for ministerial appointment in Taraba state.

    “At this juncture sir, we like to state that in politics, reward is sacrosanct. We know that immediately the 10th assembly commences, Mr president will set up his government.”

    The unveiling of the new school uniforms and the donation of N10 million to underprivileged children in Kaduna by Access Bank Plc were major highlights of the final day of the prestigious 2023 Access Bank/UNICEF Charity Shield polo tourney which climaxed over the weekend.

    Both the Access Bank and Abuja YBL polo teams emerged champions as they respectively won the Charity Shield and Usman Dantata Cup.

    The Charity Shield began in 2003 has been a platform to support charity organisations in Kaduna but has since been reserved exclusively towards UNICEF intervention projects for orphans and vulnerable children since 2006 while it further received a major boost in 2008 when Access Bank Group agreed to a multi-year sponsorship deal.

    Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe who unveiled the newly designed uniforms and shoes for the pupils of Maraban Jos Primary School in Kaduna, urge d parents to make good use of the ultra-modern educational facility targeted at removing millions of out of school children from the streets.

    “I call on parents, particularly mothers to stop their children from street trading, begging and other exploitative vices in rural and urban areas across the state for their education in this school funded by the Charity Shield Polo partners,” Balarabe pleaded.

    Access Bank Managing Director, Roosevelt Ogbonna promised the children more provision of amenities, said that :”Access Bank’s sponsorship is a reflection of our commitment to enriching the lives of Nigerians and an acknowledgement of the impact the UNICEF Charity Shield initiative has had on the lives of the orphaned and vulnerable children in Kaduna State and its environment.”

    The donation presented to UNICEF officials at the Fifth Chukker Polo & Country Club in Kaduna was reaffirmation of Access Bank’s commitment to the promotion of education in the state and in support of UNICEF campaign against HIV/AIDS pandemic among Nigerian children.

    “We have been working in Kaduna, in collaboration with Access Bank Group and Fifth Chukker Polo & Country Resort to elevate quality of lives. We need to do a lot more in support of these orphans and vulnerable children to enable them to look forward to a better tomorrow,” Dr. Gerrida Birukila, UNICEF’s Chief of Field Office, Kaduna who received the donation stated.

    The grand finale of the fund-raising charity polo was witnessed by a high-profile crowd that included governors, first class emirs, diplomats and thousands of polo buffs who cheered as the Access Bank team defeated Jos Malcomines team to win the Charity Shield.

    Earlier, YBL team from Abuja had outpaced Katsina Max Air to clinch the Usman Dantata Cup.

    Access Bank Team (2) and Kano Rumbu team had earlier won the Access Bank Cup and the UNICEF Cup respectively during the first stage of the prestigious event that was decided over ten days of intense polo extravaganza.

    The Nigerian edition of the tournament is the first phase of the series of events to raise funds for the education and care of orphans and vulnerable children in rural communities in Kaduna State. The final phase of the intervention effort will climax in the United Kingdom with the Access Bank Charity Shield Polo Day in London later in the year.

    The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN FCT Chapter has congratulated the coaches, players and management staff of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Football Club for their outstanding performance this season.

    The EFCC came top in their group to qualify for the Nigeria National League, NNL Super 8 to be played in Asaba, Delta State.

    “FCT SWAN is proud of their performance and urge them to go all out to pick the Premier League ticket for Abuja, a feat that has eluded the Federal Capital Territory, FCT since 2008 till date.,” he noted

    Haruna congratulated the chairman of EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa for his support thus far –

    NPFL Play-Offs: Clubs ratify IMC report on 2022/23 Season

    Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Chairmen met with the leadership of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) yesterday in Lagos to ratify the outcome of the 2022/23 season which will pave the way for the names of the three top clubs to be forwarded to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)

    The three clubs in order of placement are Enyimba International, Remo Stars and Rivers United are to represent Nigeria in the CAF Club competitions starting in August.

    While Enyimba and Remo Stars are to play in the CAF Champions League, Rivers United will be joined by the winner of the Federation Cup to represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup.

    At the meeting, the IMC presented the results, table and goals scored to the Club Managers who unanimously adopted it by voice vote

    Led by Chief Sir Okechukwu Kpalukwu of Rivers United and Tunde Ogujah of Sunshine Stars, the clubs commended the IMC for the success of the regular season and the play-off.

    “There were challenges at the start but we are delighted that over time, the IMC stabilised and gave us a league every Nigerian is proud of”, Ogunja remarked.

    Responding, Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye, Chairman of the IMC thanked the clubs for their cooperation in the course of the season which he said was a learning curve for the league body.

    “We ran an abridged format of the season to conform with the CAF and FIFA calendar which entails completing the league by May and June to start the new season by August

    “We are not unaware of the strain on the clubs in terms of logistics and personnel. It is very well appreciated that you cooperated with us to complete the season”, Elegbeleye stated.

    The detailed results and statistics of the NPFL Championship Play-off was presented to the Clubs’ Officials by Davidson Owumi who explained that the short notice of the meeting was as a result of the need to meet the NFF mandate to conclude the season and submit names of eligible clubs.

    Notable club officers at the meeting were Enyimba Chairman, Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu who is also the First Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Rt. Hon Tunde Olaniyan of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Abubakar Danfulani of Gombe United and Ferdinand Chukwuemeka of Rangers amongst others.

    Enyimba edged the rest five teams to clinch a historical ninth league title after ending on nine points at the Championship Play-off at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Sunday.

    The chief Executive Officer of Monimichelle Group, Ebi Egbe has congratulated the duo of Enyimba International Football Club of Aba  and Remo Stars of Ikenne  on their successful run in the just concluded Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL)  Super 6 Championship Playoffs  in Lagos.

    Egbe in a good will message to the two teams said he  was  happy the  two teams that  came first and second  to secure the two available   CAF Champions League tickets have the  ‘Monimichelle’s touch’.

    “I say a big congratulations to Enyimba and Remo  Stars and you know what? Their victory is also Monimichelle’s victory because these are two clubs with Monimichelle’s touch,” Egbe said.“We constructed the pitches where both Enyimba and Remo play.

    The Bayelsa State-born FIFA match agent said he  was confident Enyimba and Remo Stars  will do well in the continent next term given the rising profile of the nation’s domestic league which has been made more competitive by the IMC.
