Why loss of fertility in men is rising, by Centre

In the last ten years, the sperm count of men across the country has dropped by 30 per cent according to a report from the Nordica Fertility and Fibroid Care Centre.

The Centre noted that while male infertility is on the rise globally, in Nigeria, however, its data showed that the region most hit by this condition are States in the oil-producing region.

It further revealed that the primary cause of this alarming rate of infertility among men is majorly due to unhealthy lifestyle choices, especially excessive drinking, smoking, the use of sex-enhancing drugs, sendentry lifestyle, stress, among others.

The Chief Medical Director of the Nordica Fertility and Fibroid Care Centre, Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, who made this known during a briefing to commemorate its ten years anniversary in Abuja, also called for legislation on assisted conception to reduce quackery in the country.

He said: “Men now are probably the greater culprit in infertility. What we say normally is that it is between 30 to 40 per cent for men and 30 to 40 per cent for women. But we know now that all over the world and in Nigeria, the male factor is increasing.

“We analyzed data from all the centres. One thing we saw was that when we looked at sperm count ten years apart, we saw that there was a decline of 30 per cent in the sperm count of the men we are treating ten years after.

“There is a part of the country that is worse for this – the oil producing areas. They are really having a bad run with this. Without sounding like an alarmist, men are becoming more extinct. The good thing is that technology is helping to an extent.

“Each time we talk of male infertility issues, we are always emphasizing on lifestyle. Some of the things that are causing infertility in men, we are bringing it upon ourselves. Men now re becoming obese; obesity and sperm count don’t go together. Also, men are drinking a lot of alcohol, smoking all kinds of nonsense, and it is affecting sperm count. We are also becoming so sedentary. Also, we are seeing many couples abusing all kinds of aphrodisiacs. It may help with the performance, but the product is getting worse.”

Pere knocks cleric that ‘prophesied’ Davido son’s death

Ex-BBNaija Season 4 housemate, Pere Egbi has knocked a cleric, who claimed to have prophesied the death of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi.

Prophet Samuel Kings via his Facebook page on January 7 in what he tagged “Global Prophecy’s had stated 2022 to 2023 would be highly significant in the Afrobeats singer’s life and career.

He claimed besides great opportunities, rewards and awards Davido will attract during this time, he must pray against death especially for his ‘son’ which he highlighted and loved ones.

He also remarked about two letters, T and Y ‘playing a significant clue’ in his prophecy.

The post read: “#GLOBAL PROPHECY. PRAY FOR DAVID ADELEKE aka Davido.

“In a vision I saw 2022 with so many opportunities for him, reward and awards! This is the biggest year for him even until 2023!

“But let’s pray Against any arrow of death ESPECIALLY against his son! Any any close loved ones.

“God revealed this to me that it will happen if prayers are not MADE.

“I see T and Y as a very significant clue to this prophecy as well.”

Unfortunately, news of Ifeanyi’s death broke on Monday night after he was said to have drowned in the pool at his father’s Banana Island residence while his parents were heading for Ibadan for a family function.

Upon the tragic event, Prophet Samuel made a video where he said he tried reaching Davido a couple of times to deliver ‘God’s’ message to him but wasn’t given a chance since he isn’t ‘among one of the names of the so-called big prophets in Nigeria’.

After a while, Kings stated he ceased pushing to see the singer because he didn’t want to be perceived as some ‘hungry ‘prophet trying to look for fame and money’.

He implored the DMW boss to reach out to him to avert more horrific events likely to happen in 2023 because only the first part of his prohecy had happened.

Reacting to Kings’ prophecies, Pere argued in the days of the Bible, God always led prophets directly to Kings when He had a message for them but never for such messages to be shared with the public.

He maintained if God truly gave the prophet a message for David, he should have told him instead of broadcasting it to the world.

Egbi in a series of tweets said: “If God gave you a message about a public figure, tell them. Don’t broadcast it to the world. Some of these pastors should have sense. You can have the Holy Ghost and still be deficient in wisdom. Now the boy is gone to Heaven.

“You’re still online posting on Facebook saying “prophecy fulfilled”? So what? So that we should know you’re a man of God. I find something wrong with that.

“If God gave you a message for a king, he will lead you directly to that king to deliver it. In bible days, he operated that way. A message for a man from God was never shared with the public.”

  • Nigeria can break poverty chain through food security, safety net – AbdulRasaq

Nigeria can break poverty chain through food security, safety net – AbdulRasaq

Nigeria and Africa can easily break the shackles of poverty through proper investments that lead to food security as well as various safety net programmes that directly put money in the pockets of those mostly in need of it, Kwara State Governor said on Monday.

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said at a meeting with Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) that coordinated investments in agricultural value chains and social investment programmes that target the most vulnerable groups could help to lift millions of people out of poverty.

Apart from its support for agriculture, the Governor said the administration continues to support small businesses and lift up people below the poverty line through its social safety programmes such as Owo Arugbo and Owo Isowo, among others.

Speaking with the IsDB team on National Programme for Food Security, the Governor said everything must be done to grow the agricultural value chains such as the one being supported by the bank.

Kwara, Kebbi, Kano and Ekiti have been identified to benefit in the first phase of the programme which is funded by the IsDB.

“The global problem created by Covid-19 is still subsisting. We have a huge problem globally not just in Nigeria which has affected food security throughout the world. Africa, and indeed Nigeria, is ready to feed the world. We have the land and everything to achieve that. But we have to be organised. And it is programmes like this that will put us in the right footing to feed the world in every aspect. It is a serious thing that you sent a team down to Kwara to make sure you have hands-on approach to the programme,” he told the IsDB Operations team led by Javed Khan.

“Our 10-year Agriculture Transformation Plan shows the seriousness our administration attaches to agriculture and its value chains. The future for us is agriculture and agro-processing. That is where we have comparative advantages.

“We thank you for your interest in our state. With thorough engagement and sincerity of purpose, be assured that our team is prepared and very serious about this project, because we don’t have oil in Kwara, agriculture is part of what we are looking at to sustain us. So, we need to and we indeed can break the chains of poverty through agriculture.”

Khan, for his part, said on the food security programme: “As a procedure, we are here just to confirm and we got the confirmation from the relevant team here, that whatever is designed is according to the needs and requirements of the Kwara State. We are here to listen to all the technical people if they need to add or remove something from it. This is a project for the people of Kwara.

“What I saw in the last few months that I joined the Nigeria’s team in Abuja is that there is a lot of potentials not only in Kwara but also in many other states. But you need to harness this potential for greater benefits. How do we get this benefits from it? We need to work together to achieve the set objectives.

“I will like to convey the appreciation of the bank to Your Excellency for your commitment to the wellbeing of the poor. With your government’s support, I am sure, we will be able to conclude our technical meetings here and have a good implementation.”

Khan said he led a combined team from the Office of the National Programme for Food Security; the Islamic Development Bank; Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; Federal Ministry of Finance.

State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Abdulateef Gidado Alakawa, said Kwara would join three other states — Kano, Kebbi and Ekiti — that have been captured in the first phase of the programme.

He attributed the choice of Kwara and other benefitting states to their government’s commitments to agricultural sector in their respective states.

“I am glad to inform Your Excellency that the State under your watch has met all the criteria, and in all the assessments Kwara State came first for the first time they did it, the second time they did it, and the third time they did it. So they are here this morning to do the final stage,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by Commissioners Olasumbo Florence Oyeyemi (Finance); Dr. Raji Razaq (Health); and KWASSIP Chairman Abdulquawiy Olododo; and Agricultural Development Project (ADP) chief Dr. Khadijat Lawal; among other government officials.
