It also vowed to deliver presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu next year.

Addressing journalists at the inauguration of TNA zonal executive for North East in Gombe, the National Convener of TNA, Malam Musa Shariff Rilwanu said the group is aware of the fact that the North East is the battle ground for 2023 election because the Presidential Candidate of PDP and the Vice Presidential Candidate of APC are from the Zone.

“But be that as it may, I want to assure you that we will retire the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from politics in 2023 because we are ready for him in this zone. We know we have the best and most qualified candidate in person of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu whose records of performance in Lagos speaks for him,” he said.

She said: “We have tasted him before and we know he has nothing to show us as evidence of his performance in the North East. So let him give another person a chance to taste the office and do something for the people.”

Finney said the people of the North East are prepared and ready to deliver the region to APC for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to become the president and continue the good job of President Muhammadu Buhari.

She added that the group is not threatened by the candidate of the PDP coming from the North East saying it is not an issue at all.

“Talk of achievements, Lagos is a living example for everyone to point to. Not only that, we have a candidate that has successfully raised so many other people who are holding critical position in this administration, so tell me who else is more qualified for that office than Tinubu,” he said.

  • PDP crisis: Ayu blows hot, says he can stop Ortom, others

PDP crisis: Ayu blows hot, says he can stop Ortom, others

The crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened at the weekend as its embattled National Chairman Senator Iyorchia Ayu warned Benue Governor Samuel Ortom and other critics that he has the powers to stop them from realising their political ambitions on the platform of the party in 2023.

Ayu and the Governor of his home state, Ortom, have been at loggerheads following the decision of the latter to align with Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike in the call for the resignation of the PDP National Chairman after the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the party . Wike had contested for the presidential ticket and lost to Atiku.

Ayu and Ortom hail from Benue North West and the Governor is gunning for the senatorial seat on the platform of the PDP.

But Ayu, while speaking about the disagreement between him and Ortom at the weekend, said he has the power to stop the Benue Governor from realising his senatorial ambition on the platform of the party.

The feud between the two politicians has divided the opposition party in the state. Addressing a crowd of supporters on his arrival at his home in Gboko at the weekend, the embattled party boss said he is capable of stopping any candidate in the State, who is vying on the platform of the PDP from achieving their ambitions if he decides to reciprocate the attacks on him from some quarters.

He however said as a father to all and sundry, he won’t react in such manner.

“I have been silent over all the things you are hearing against me because I don’t want any crack in the party I belong in my state. I have the powers to say you and you will not go anywhere because I will insist that I must sign before you go anywhere. But I have signed for all candidates produced by the PDP to go ahead in their dreams, whether I like it or not I signed.

“So I was doing that believing that I cannot shoot myself in the leg. I want Benue to come first by winning all elections so that Nigerians will say that the National Chairman has delivered his state to PDP with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar winning 90 per cent of the votes and Titus Uba as Governor in 2023. Nothing should worry you, my people.

“Since I started politics more than 30 years ago, you have never rejected me, you are always supporting me. They say a prophet has no respect in his home but my case is different. I am overwhelmed by this great show of love.

“The PDP is one and not divided. I am trying my best not to disappoint the Benue people and Nigerians in general. So if you hear that they want to chase Ayu out as national chairman, don’t be worried; nobody is going to sack me as national chairman of our party.

“I will leave the seat on a day that God permits. It is God that enthrones leadership. He uses people to enthrone a person over others and protects that person. I want to assure you that all these days, God has been protecting me even when I went on sick leave abroad, God is still protecting me. The Tiv people have suffered so much in this country,” Ayu explained.

Urging the people of the State to support Atiku’s presidential ambition, he added: “We are yet to get our share of the national cake, so my charge to you is not to relent in prayers so that this time around come 2023, God will give us a president who will work closely with the Governor of our State to wipe out our tears. During Senator J S Tarka’s era, God gave us a Fulani man, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, did he fight the Tiv nation? Did he kill our people?

“He appointed five ministers from Benue State and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Chaha, Paul Unongo (Minister of steel), Isaac Shaahu (Minister of Communications), Mrs. Elizabeth Ivase (Education Minister) and Audu Ogbeh etc. Another Fulani man, Yar Adua appointed a Tiv man, Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, his Minister of Justice.

“Today, the standard bearer of PDP, Atiku Abubakar, who is not only a chieftaincy title holder of the Tiv people as the Zege Mule U Tiv, he is my friend, he told me his plans for the Tiv nation. That he will wipe away the tears of our people. So nobody should try to bring any troubles to you. I am telling you today, PDP is one party, a party that has divisions and does not win elections. No matter the strength of any party, if it does not have unity, it will lose elections.”

  • EPL : Rangers slam Aberdeen 4-1

EPL : Rangers slam Aberdeen 4-1

Rangers delivered an emphatic comeback win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership to alleviate the pressure on manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Connor Barron’s first Aberdeen goal stunned Rangers, who had been booed off in their previous two home games.

But Antonio Colak and John Lundstram had the dominant hosts – who racked up 36 shots – ahead by the break.

James Tavernier added a third, then hit a post with a penalty, and Alfredo Morelos wrapped up the rout late on.

Van Bronckhorst’s side are now within a point of leaders Celtic, who face Livingston on Sunday, while Aberdeen drop a place to fourth after their three-game winning run ended with a whimper.

    Reaction & as it happened
All you need to know about Rangers
Aberdeen were the form side coming into this, with manager Jim Goodwin talking up his side and noting Rangers were “not in a good place” amid underwhelming domestic displays and a nightmarish Champions League campaign.

Van Bronckhorst needed a big performance from his team, especially when their fragile confidence was tested early as Barron lashed into the net after Luis Lopes bamboozled the home defence with a weaving run.

The response was thunderous. Rangers were level within six minutes as Lundstram’s pass sliced the visitors open and Malik Tillman rolled the ball across for Colak to tuck in his 14th of the season. Ibrox erupted and the hosts never looked back.

Lundstram fired them ahead on the stroke of half-time when Ben Davies squared for the midfielder after Kelle Roos couldn’t hold a Tavernier effort.

Rangers’ incessant pressure told again when Borna Barisic – on for the injured Ridvan Yilmaz – swung in a cross and Tavernier planted a header into the bottom corner.

The captain failed to add to his tally from the spot, bouncing his strike off a post after Jayden Richardson’s handball led to a penalty awarded following VAR intervention.

Rangers could have had a handful more goals, such was their glut of chances, but had to settle for substitute Morelos tapping in at the back post from the impressive Fashion Sakala’s low cross.

This was Rangers at their aggressive, attacking best as the players heeded Van Bronckhorst’s call for a positive start.

It will please the Dutchman that they didn’t relent, delivering a complete performance that should have come with a bigger winning margin.

Sakala lacked a finishing touch, missing two glaring chances, but offered plenty on just his second league start. The only sour note for Rangers was injuries to Yilmaz and Davies in an already depleted defence.

While Rangers impressed, Aberdeen were dismal. Their back three formation was exposed time and again as Rangers ran amok on the wings. Liam Scales in particular endured a torrid afternoon.

The Pittodrie side offered precious little in attack, too, with Barron’s strike their only effort on target.
